Service was really nice and pleasant. Fish of the day: Salmon and surf n turf bruschetta was my favourite. Gnocchi at the first looked good, until my first scoop and found that unfortunate hair!… disappointing. The gnocchi was replaced however, was no gnocchi quality. Felt like I was eating mashed potato cubes. At the end of the meal, we still ended up paying for the gnocchi. Beautiful restaurant and atmosphere.
The food was tasty, especially the coleslaw. The pia colada was okay, but the Moscow mule was delicious. The location was great too. I had a great view from my table.

Drinks were good but not good enough to come back especially because as soon as I let the server know we were only going to get drinks he looked irritated and didn’t really tend to us, it’s unfortunate to be served by some one with attitude. I’ll consider coming back but probably not.
We ordered the oysters and beef carpaccio to start, and then ordered duck as our main course (unfortunately not on the menu anymore). The food here is actually quite good. The oysters were small but very fresh. The beef carpaccio was excellent, one of the best we’ve had! The duck was average at best, maybe that’s why they removed it from their menu. We couldn’t resist dessert and had their house made ice cream along with their chocolate cake, this was delicious! The service is good but their menu is pricey, so we understand why people might be deterred from Beach Bay Cafe. Quality wise, there are definitely worst places out there.
I actually felt that this place deserved better billing than it gets. There is some real quality here, I just suspect that people are expecting more creativity based on some of the previous occupants of this location. Taken on its own merits, there is really nothing wrong with Beach Bay, in fact, everything here was really quite good. The service on the other hand definitely needs improvement. It waxes and wanes from intrusive to neglectful in the same meal.
Chef Felix Zhou is one of Canada’s young luminaries and his inventiveness and michelin-trained technique is worth the trip. Unbelievable value with the tasting menu at $49 per person. We had an amazing dinner with family and the service, presentation and food were absolutely first rate. And now with the patio open, it really is a very special place. I’ll be back soon!
