As all of you who read my reviews know, if you mess up Salmon and California, you’re not worth my money. Now granted, you can mess up that crappy Atlantic Salmon, but if you boast to only serve Wild Sockeye and it tastes like water, I apologize but I can’t return. I got a Teriyaki Bento and one piece of Sockeye Nigiri. My chicken teriyaki was overly sauced to hide the bland taste, salad dressing was too citrus-y, my friend’s Tonkatsu (which I had a piece of), was done tempura-style and was falling apart, and my tempura was a mess. The sweet potato was too thick cut and thus I was basically eating raw sweet potato, my zucchini was uber-soft in the middle and uber-tough around the edges, the carrot basically fell apart and the Shrimp has no taste to it. All of my tempura had to be soaked in Tempura sauce to be edible. And I paid $13.55 for this? No thank you, never again. At least I didn’t get sick, so I’ll give it 1.5 instead of a straight 1. EDIT: Totally forgot that our food to 20 MINUTES to arrive! And there were only five tables being served, all of which were serviced at the time. The food service workers need replacements pronto.
This place is a godsend!. Made the trek all the way downtown from New West because I saw on their website they have a dedicated Gluten-free menu. I have been burned by sushi joints so many times before in regards to the gluten thing. Good sushi can be hard to find, let alone G/F. We had the real-crab rolls, spicy avocado roll, salmon sashimi, and it was just divine. For the two (very substantial) rolls and the two nigiri the entire bill came to 16 dollars. Steal of a deal. And the quality was just top notch. The owner (?) came out after our meal and was super pleasant and we had a nice conversation about her own wheat allergy. Note to any celiacs reading this: the wasabi is not G/F! Just a heads up. But they do have Tamari as an alternative to regular Soy sauce, so that’s a win! Can’t wait to go back, amazing meal.
