I had a great Bashaw Beef Sandwich with flavourful Mac N’ Cheese. I highly recommend their sandwiches. Great portions with a relaxed vibe. You’ll love it if you like food, you’ll hate it if you desire pretentiousness.
I Will never order another thing from here ever again. Yuck. Too bad there isn’t a 0 rating. I had a beef sandwich and it actually tasted and smelled off. Felt sick later in the day. Never again will I visit this establishment. Not even if I was starving.
I had a Pompeii Porchetta sandwich (pork belly and loin, roasted jalapeno salsa Verde, crispy skin, house made cappella, arugula and herb mix), tasted absolutely great flavor!! I’ve been sick eating huge size of sandwiches with mas-produced meat/ham and sauces, something like from Subway or Safeway mostly bread but filling and cheaper. Yes, it’s small potion but in other way, it’s right amount of food if you think about its calories. Give them a try, go for a quality but quantity.
This cafe is running it’s business and not paying there bills. This is bad business. We will not be supporting them and hope you also will not support them.
If I could rate this place a zero, I would.I walked in there deciding to try their porchetta sandwich. It was priced at $10.50 tax included. The sandwich is served with arugula, crackle, and a poblano Verde sauce. I asked to try the poblano Verde sauce- I just wanted to see how it tasted, hoping that it wasn’t too spicy. All it tasted like was peppers and oil. It had no flavor. So, I asked for a sandwich on white (you have your choice of white or whole wheat bread) with no arugula or no poblano Verde sauce and just some yellow mustard. While making the sandwich, the server put arugula on it anyway, and had to take it off after I told him that I had ordered it without. I got the sandwich to go which was a big mistake. I never should’ve left the restaurant without trying it.When I got home I opened it, and I could tell just by its appearance that it was going to be a disappointment. And I wasn’t wrong.Thinly sliced flavorless pork on a mediocre baguette type of sandwich bread. With little pieces of arugula in it.What I had in front of me was worth about 4 1/2 dollars. If it had been a little bit better, I wouldn’t have gotten back into my truck and driven all the way back to the restaurant to get my money back. But do you know what the worst thing about the experience was? When I went back to the restaurant, the server called his manager over when I told him I just wanted my money back. The manager asked me how he could help me, and I told him I just wanted my money back because The sandwich wasn’t good.Without pausing for a second the manager opened up the cash register and gave me $10.50 back. He didn’t ask me why it wasn’t good he didn’t ask me why I was disappointed or why I wanted my money back. It’s almost like it wasn’t the first time that it happened.Food is simply too expensive in Vancouver to put up with being given sub quality product, or being overcharged for it. What I was served was worth no more than 4 or 5 dollars. I could go to Safeway and put the same thing together for probably three or four dollars and have a better meal. One would think that this restaurant would do a little bit of market research before opening, and realize that the standard for this type of sandwich in Vancouver is Meat and Bread. There is absolutely no comparison between their more expensive sandwich, and the less expensive product that meat and bread puts out. They serve flavorless dry pork with a flavorless sauce. Meat and Bread serves a wonderful product consisting of fantastic bread, big chunks of juicy tender pork, and a wonderfully flavorful salsa Verde.I don’t know if any of their other sandwiches are any good or not, but if their pork sandwich is any indication, this place probably won’t be around for very long- Unless of course people simply don’t know that they can walk a few blocks to Pender Street and get an infinitely better sandwich for less money.Apparently the owner of this place was on Masterchef Canada. If that’s true it’s pretty shameful that he would knowingly serve a product this poor in quality.
Tried the platter for two and man, everything was amazing.Starting with the mac n cheese, which was as greasy and cheesy and every bit as it was delicious. Hands-down the most flavorful mac n cheese I’ve ever tried. The chicken, porchetta, and prime rib are all very juicy and they each come with a complementary sauce. The prime rib is my favorite because it’s super lean yet soft and tender. The corn has a nice spicy kick to them, the fried asparagus and green beans have a really light batter and the fried potato chips are some of the best I’ve tried. thehappysloths.com
