Sylvia’s. Average food, menu selections, service, interiorskinda boring ambianceexpected more out of this place because of the location and the beautiful exterior of the building…like live piano music or somethingdidn’t dislike my meal here but probably wouldn’t come back

Cancel your Christmas Party.. Fresh back from a Christmas Party there – pre-booked in advance for 30, menu choices specified, but gosh, what a disappointment. The food in itself was actually okay – but nothing arrived at the same time, and it was all rather too on the cool side. A good ten minutes elapsed between two turkey dinners arriving and the salmon following on. Nice thick slices of turkey, but the potatoes tasted industrial, and the salmon (again, a good-sized piece) was merely dressed in very sharp lemon and wine mix. No reduction or emulsification. Meh.The staff did seem to be trying their best, and I can understand that taking away one diner’s empty main-course plate, when their table-mate hasn’t had their main course can seem like the best course of action, given the circumstances. But c’mon… Sylvia – you’re a landmark. You can do much better than this. Surely?

Had a guest in from our of town, wanted to eat somewhere in English bay. Food was ok at best but everything else was great. But the food was boring enough that I wouldn’t go back.

Don’t go on New Years!. We heard great things about this place so we decided to check it out for New Years Day brunch. Instead of their regular menu, we were forced to order a $25 fixed price menu ($25 + service charge + HST), which included one of their regular dishes, a mimosa and some muffins for the table and coffee/tea. The food was decent and worth around $12 like they normally charge, but nowhere near $25. Who the hell wants a mimosa on New Years when you’re hung over. This ‘package’ was maybe worth $15, not $25. The service was great though. I probably won’t be back, because honestly their food is the same you can get elsewhere for around $9 or $10, they just have a nice view.

Forgettable food. Classic building, beautiful view, good service, but totally forgettable food. Someone should be taken out and shot for the non-effort that was served to me as today’s lunch special. It was a toasted sandwich like your grandma might have made for you when you were sick and home from school. Whoever manages this place really should try eating there once in a while.
