The best Chinese Food in West Kelowna. My family has lived here almost 30 years and when I visit this is our go to. We’ve slowly been trying different dishes and of course have our favorites. The Beef and Tomato fried rice (95) is by far the best. The House Chow Mein (72) and Sweet and Sour Pork (48) are solid. If you like spicy the Singapore Fried Rice Noodles (84 have a yellow curry flavor), Kung Pao Prawns (23) and Thai Sweet Chili Pork (54 spicier version of S&S Pork) are fantastic. We are not a fan of the Tofu in the Buddha Style Vegetables (70) but the veggies in the dish and (67) are cooked to perfection. We are still going through the menu and can’t wait to dine-in to try the Dim Sum! I would bet the duck here is great too!

I am American, so my perspective on Chinese food is from eating it in the US for most of my life. Sure, what I’ve become accustomed to eating isn’t authentic, but it’s still tasty (love me some Moo Goo Gai Pan, General Tso’s Chicken, Lo Mein, and crab rangoons!)That being said, I’ve found most Chinese restaurants in Canada so far to be lacking in variety and flavor. I don’t really care for authentic/traditional Chinese food or dim sum, mind you (I’m sure there are actually lots of great places here for that), so my thoughts are only geared towards those establishments that serve Canadian/Americanized Chinese food (you know, places that serve sweet & sour chicken, ginger beef, etc.) The good — City Lites did at least offer more than 5 choices for entrees, which I found promising. I was excited to see Orange Chicken on the menu, as I had not seen it during my time in Canada as of yet. The chicken and sauce were good, and I’d probably consider ordering it again if it weren’t so expensive. (Why do entrees not come with rice here???)The bad — I got an egg roll. I have eaten many an egg roll in my day, and it’s rare to see one on the menu in Canada (there’s usually only spring rolls). Being able to order an egg roll was one of the reasons I ordered food from here. Egg rolls are similar to spring rolls, except they’re (1) bigger, (2) made with a thicker wrapper, and (3) usually include pork or shrimp. This egg roll was…..strange. It was a spring roll filled with celery (yes, CELERY — I specifically asked an employee what was in it), which had an odd flavor, and THEN it was dipped in a tempura-like batter and deep-fried. What?!? Why no cabbage in your egg rolls? I could have lived with the weird batter coating if it had at least tasted good. I am not one to waste or throw out food, but I did not hesitate to trash that disgusting excuse for an egg roll. Also, the atmosphere was very depressing. I picked up my take-out order between 5:30-6:00 pm — prime dinner time — and no one else was in there. That explained everything when I saw the empty restaurant. Mei Wei is always filled with people, so I think I’ll stick to them for any Chinese cravings for the rest of my stay in Westbank. If only someone around here served General Tso’s chicken…..*sigh.*

Hidden gem. Eating gluten free isn’t always easy. I enjoy the health benefits and how much easier it is on my digestion now but I miss the variation. Thanks to this restaurant, I’m still able to enjoy great Chinese food not at the expense of my body. This makes eating out a lot less frustrating. Great taste, helpful staff, keep up the good work.
