Disappointing dinner. Don’t go there hungry the portions are small. There were 4 of us for dinner 3 had the rib eye special that was tasteless and tough. The other dish was the chicken which was good. When it came to ordering a bottle of wine the least expensive bottle was $39.00, and needless to day they were out of it. They tried to up sell us on a $60.00 bottle but we chose the next cheapest at $48.00 described as tap wine (another name for box wine), which was served in a carafe. The service was slow.
Tried Aura for the first time last night. They had a three course special for $30. Appy, Main and Dessert for the $30. Cheapest available wine was $40. Of course, they were out of that, so we had a carafe for $48 of red. Portions were tiny. The beef unfortunate. Over $100/couple with tip of 15%. Poor value, and very slow service for a Tues night. Left disappointed and hungry.
The Aura restaurant is like a surreal orgasmic roller coaster ride to culinary heaven. If you are passing by whistler, a dinner experience here cannot be missed. There is nothing like it. Exceptional service and out of this world food.
Wonderful in every way. I tried Aura last summer for the first time and loved the fact that it felt so far from Whistler without us needing to travel far. The lake setting was calming and peaceful and we enjoyed the courteous and friendly staff that offered great service. It didn’t take long before I returned for another summer night and a special occasion. This time we tried the 5 course tasting menu paired with the matching wines which was just wonderful. It was a perfect evening in every way and we have talked about it often since. We will be back.
Ruined our anniversary celebration!. We traveled from Oregon to celebrate our 16th wedding anniversary and our waiter did not even have the decency to wish us a happy anniversary, even though afterwards he admitted he knew it was our anniversary from our reservation notes. Both of our children, 10 and 11, wondered why this waiter was not acknowledging our celebration as they are used to us celebrating family milestones at places that do acknowledge us. Okay, so that is why not to go. Don’t waste your money here if you are celebrating something, or at least not if you are a same-sex couple. The basics:The food is okay. I had the partridge and it was dry. By then I was so upset at the waiter I just wanted out of there. The scallops were good. The view is great. Very relaxed.Bottom line: Hey you are in Whistler. There are a hundred fine dining restaurants that I would recommend spending your money in. Avoid Aura
This is a whistler restaurant that incomprehensibly doesn’t seem to get much hype, which is why I seemed to live a block from it without hearing knowing it existed. I was overjoyed to discover such fantastic food available so close! I have since been countless times, my go-to restaurant for visitors. In fact it’s my go-to overall. The food has never been anything but exquisite and the service is great. As I’ve become a regular the service has just gotten more and more friendly and personal. The tasting menus are just divine, although with a rather hefty price tag – they are absolutely worth it just save it for a special occasion. Possibly the only thing that makes me think twice is the bill, my solution is usually to order off the lounge menu which offers more a more casual fine dining but with the same standard of preparation. Oh and mustn’t forget to mention the drinks, best cocktails I’ve ever had. Great wine list too.
Off track – in more than one way. Personally, I’m surprised that Aura remains in business. Our experience there was not horrible, but not special either. Everything hovered around average – the service, the presentation, the atmosphere and most importantly, the food. Some dishes were good, but others were mediocre bordering on bad. Unlike the other review, I wouldn’t say it’s worth the trek out, as there’s so many good restaurants in the Whistler core.
