We were out for a motorcycle ride and needed a destination. The Pelican was a good choice. Competent coffee (and we are definitely members of the West Coast Coffee Geekery), tasty fresh muffin, a very nice quiet spacious room, today’s Globe & Mail, good wifi, clean washrooms and a welcoming attitude. And easy parking.
Arts and coffee lover. I’ve been to Pelican Rouge a few times for coffee and food and/or a reading. The atmosphere is friendly and neighbourhood-centered, with it’s own unique atmosphere which I find a real pleasure compared to all the chain cookie cutter coffee stores. Clearly the owner cares about and is involved in the community as well as running a successful business. The fact that she cares enough about Art to support it is a bonus. Marsha
To begin with the place smelt like sh*t literally. I was just here moments ago. I came out from TD bank and wanted something sweet. I saw the sign for baked goods and went inside. the place is a little run down, however it is very big and open considering it looks small from the outside. For starters it stank in there, so bad that i am trying to remember why i even stayed. As an older couple ahead of me ordered their lunch i decided i would opt for the double fudge cake (i think thats what it was called.. some kind of fudge cake) it sounded the most delicious. i just got back to my desk and undid the packagng. There is water everywhere – meaning this was probably frozen at some point. I still went ahead and took a bite. BAD IDEA tastes as bad as it smelled in there. It was not sweet whatsoever, it tasted so gross!Leaving the place i thought maybe the bad smelll was just because of something they made, or from outside i thought to myself that i would be back with my laptop on my next lunch have some coffee and get some work done. But after tasting this i don’t think so.
1000 great experiences to one bad. One bad cinnamon roll (review below) experience is vastly overshadowed by so many fabulous ones. Try the Pelican Rouge house salad – dried cranberries, in season greens and fruit. Hazelnuts… (supporting BC producers).25 Sep, 2012Passing off stale pastry. For the 3 months that I have worked in the area, I have been a pretty steady customer of the Pelican Rouge, and I have gushed over their fresh cinnamon buns. So I was very disappointed this morning to get back to the office, reach into the bag to tear off a bite and find it cold and stale. Very disappointing.
Dependable and Friendly. Family run business that cares for the staff, the quality and the service. Nice patio, local artwork and always seems to be friendly chatter of regulars running into each other. A neighbourhood spot for locals and tourists can always drop in for directions if they get confused that 16th is also North Bluff and that 152nd is also Johnson Road. That’s the intersection where they are!
Yum :). Have been visiting this place for years….there’s always new local art on the walls and treats on the shelves! Currently loving the tandoori wraps and breaky bagels….soooo good! I’m not a coffee gal, but their teas are awesome. 🙂
