Decent pho, however, charging 1$ for hot sauce is ridiculous. I have never been to a place that does that it really puts you off as a customer. I will most likely not go back because of this.
late night dinner prior to an event in china town, came here with a couple friends, and ordered food as i thought this will be a pho place ate a large of house special, they served the food within 10 minutes which is pretty awesome, then the noodle was good, got firmness but that has become a standard of firmness to me in vancouver’s pho restaurant, then the broth was decent, not much depth more towards the simple/bland type, i think the rolls here are more price worthy than the pho, although that’s only my personal opnion on taste, on pricing, the pho is okay for downtown pricing. mangkr.wordpress.com
Totally disappointing. I ordered Lemon Grass Chicken on rice with fried eggs.1) Rice I expected fresh rice made today. But I got reheated rice, still wet with some water, not even from a rice cooker. The rice was not new crop, pretty tasteless hard to believe an Asain restaurant failing at the rice level. If it was new crop made the same day, I could just eat the rice with a bit of dark soy.2) Chicken I research before hand by phoning them if the chicken was raw and cook to order. They insisted that tge chicken was not precooked. I asked again when I got there. Again, another person told me the chicken id made to order and not re-heated. Not! The chicken was dried out, not juicy. If it was fredhly cooked, in the time I waited, it would still be tender and juicy. I did not have to wair long enough for the chicken to br over done. In any case, if the chicken had been sitting on the grill (hence the dryness), then it would have burned my tongue when I on the first bite. Most people order pho there. If you are looking for chicken on a bed of rice. Try a Chinese Restaurant. I do no recommend this place for BBQ meat on rice.
Worst ever. I used to frequent here simply because it was half a block away from my house. They may not have the best pho nor lemongrass in Vancouver but it satisfied my Vietnamese cravings. Plus, the staff who ran the place were always nice. I think its part of the Gold Express chain of pho restaurants in the UBC area, because they have the same menu. The one on 10th ave is the best one.Anyways, I walked into the Nelson location one evening last month to place a takeout order. That’s when I noticed the staff were different, and they did not speak Vietnamese. Did they change ownership? I should have asked. When I got home, I opened the box to be greeted by fresh horrors. The vermicelli noodles were brown, and soaking in oil. The lemongrass pork was dripping, and the spring roll was orange and dirty. It had black grits, like when you burn your steak on the stove. Only God knows I must have been starving enough to put any of this into my mouth. I spat out the spring roll immediately. It tasted like it either was fried in 3 day old oil, or they picked it up from another customer’s plate, re-fried it, and gave it to me. It was vile. I threw it all away and ate 2 oranges to cut the lingering greasy taste.I hope for the (new?) owner’s sake that they read the reviews here and take some corrective action. And to add to their list, they could do with 9 less florescent signs in their window. The residents across the street must save on Vegas travel every year; they can enjoy the bright flashing lights from the comforts of their living room couch. As I recall, the number of signs increased exponentially from one to 10 around the time of my last visit. Finally, it breaks my heart that I can no longer complain to my friends that 24/7 Thai Vietnamese has the worst pho in town.
Good pho. I like this place for lunch, fast service, good portion I can not even finish some times.
So much MSG is used I was dying of thirst after my pho.
Awesome. A true delight. One of Vancouver`s best kept secrets.
