My girlfriend had accidentally overslept, again. Sigh… I’m still waiting for that boyfriend of the year award for driving her so early. Anyhow, as soon as I dropped her off to work I passed by yaletown and noticed this corner. Just by glancing at the words of the establishment, it already sounds very fancy haha. Ok so I head on in. Alright there’s a bit of a line up. Small place but nothing is wrong with that. The kind lady greets me. I asked for a coffee, your choice of blend. Then I noticed a basket full of goodies for a dollar ish. So I grab a custard pastry. Everything in house looks good. Unfortunately, my coffee tasted a bit too bitter and burnt… And the custard pastry? Well I can’t complain for that price. I would say it’s decent. Cute place, but not much wow factor. I think alot of locals just pop in before work or while on work breaks for coffee. Nothing wrong with this place at all, just my expectations were a bit higher when it came down to the trendy name cause it did draw me in.
Awful cakes. The chocolate truffle was so tough I couldn’t even poke my spoon through.
Ownership changed. There have been a lot of people complaining of the service and the food in the latest reviewes. I think it has something to do with the ownership changing. It used to be owned and run by a guy from France who ran the bakery and hired staff for the retail store. That is gone now.The service and attentiveness of the staff is poor, and the food quality has also changed for the worse. Not everyone can bake french pastries like an actual Parisian. I think the women who work in the store now are Korean, and not being racist, but the ambiance doesn’t feel very Parisian either.
Terrible place. The service is non-existence, but some very strong dis-service is there for sure. The serviceperson’s attitude was extremely unpleasant and rude. Coffee and food were not good either.
Why haven’t I known?!. I’ve walked past this unassuming bakery so many times and never thought to look past their turtle bread sitting in the window. Heard that they had sandwiches so popped in for one for my train ride. I am addicted to their salami and swiss sandwiches! So simple and perfect.
