I look for high quality-to-price ratios, and Jako delivers splendidly. The Sushi is mediocre, and it’s very cheap by downtown standards. I eat here regularly.

We ordered to go. The interior looks old and dirty which makes you not want to dine in. Service is inferior to Sushi Howe which is just up the street: the cashier at this place had no smile until we paid and then she said thank you. Also no receipt was given. The size of their sushi is smaller than the ones at the other sushi places. Their salmon and toro are less fatty than the ones at other sushi places, and their tai does not look standard. In addition, the amaebi in the deluxe sashimi looks like cooked; they don’t look nor taste like raw. The most scary part is their chopped scallop and scallop sushi – they use red tobiko for the chopped scallop sushi (which is not the standard orange tobiko that other sushi places use), and one of the two scallop sushi has sand in it. I agree with the review about their gomaee: the peanut sauce is too heavy. They either use cheap seafood or their seafood is not fresh. I would rather pay more for quality food.

delicious, had the Sunshine and Davie roll. would recommend. pretty humble aesthetics, but the staff are super friendly and helpful. relatively quiet for lunch so no problems getting a seat.

I’ve been coming here frequently for a few years now and with these prices and this type of freshness, it can’t really be beat. The fish and seafood are fresh, the prices are remarkably low, and the quality is amazing. They’re also very good at altering orders if you have intolerance, allergies, or just dislike something. They’ll also make to order some of your favorite rolls (eg; I love the Sunshine roll, but as I’m allergic to any sort of peppers, I get it with mayo and no cucumbers instead of spicy sauce). They’re also very good at remembering faces/patrons and have a congenial attitude and personality. For price and quality, it’s really hard to beat, particularly in the downtown core. Easy to access and I get mine to go to enjoy at home.

Ultra long wait time.No English. No customer service. No management skills! We should really stop going to places like this one… They have to understand how customer service works.

Good for Nigiri Sushi at the right time of the day but forget anything else.. I’ve been in here several times and the experience is generally the same. This is another typical Korean run Japanese restaurant.. They do some things great like straight Nigiri Sushi but most anything else is done poorly which seems to be fine for most people here who never lived in Japan and know how things are done properly. My last visit i ordered simple Traditional items that any proper Japanese restaurant should execute perfectly.I ordered 6 pieces of Salmon Sushi, 2 Pieces of Tamago ,a order of Gomae and a order of Chicken Karaage. The Salmon & Tamago was done very well and very tasty.. However everything else was crap. The Gomae was made very poorly. The portion size was good but the spinach was sopping wet and this massive amount of peanut sauce was gooped on top. The Chicken Karaage portion size was good but was also done very poorly. For some reason, instead of the light, tasty and crispy coating one expects with a proper Karaage it was served using a batter that reminded me of those Canadian Chinese deep fried chicken balls. Not good at all…Also the best time for getting sushi would be before 3 pm as one time we showed up about a hour and a half before closing the the rice used was dried out. Also the wait stuff are not particularly friendly nor personable, maybe for regular customers but not for someone off the street or occasional customers. Now the last point is only really for those who actually speak japanese… One of the nice things i did like on the first couple times i visited was they were playing some nice mellow albums by Momoe Yamaguchi and Mariya Takeuchi… This time they were playing non stop generic Kpop.. Rather annoying. There are better places out there to go for your sushi fix if you want to eat other things off the menu.

Distasteful. Quite recently, I fancied the Japanese cuisine. A timely stumble brought me to a crevice on Davie and I invited myself into Jako. Lovely setting, however unsanitary, nonetheless bearable for a restaurant of its tier.I ordered a beer. Standard Corona. The clueless waitress promptly brought me the drink and smiled sheepishly. I looked at her, as if in misinterpretation.Corona. Mas fina. How obvious could it be? Just a Bare Bottle of Beer? I didn’t come here for BBB…J. WHERE IS THE LIME WEDGE? I stared at her in disappointment and disbelief of such discourtesy.Never have I seen such soft service. They failed to realize the lime wedge is what sets us apart from the others. I cannot begin to imagine my fellow diners and their look of shock and awe at this misery. The sushi was good, on the other hand. However, I am ashamed to say I cannot recommend returning to this little nook.
