The rice bowl is terrible. It’s just a direct mix of rice and heated chicken/beef with a little sauce poured on. Such food is shamed to be called Japanese cuisine. Never again.
Tried this on a Sunday afternoon (downtown location) as there weren’t many sushi restaurants open. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality and presentation of everything we ordered. The fish in the rolls and sashimi were fresh and flavourful, the rice option was sprouted brown rice (a great surprise), and they offered many organic items too. The price was on the higher scale but well worth the higher quality dishes.
Great place for healthy Japanese food. I really liked the geisha girls roll! The restaurant is very small and cozy (might be a long wait during busy hours). Very friendly staff. A unique experience!
Fresh crab rolls were a pleasant refreshing experience and the brown rice gave the fare a delightful twist. Overall a solid dining experience at a reasonable price.
Good sushi, can serve with brown rice and quality, fresh fish. The prices are higher than other sushi places nearby but I believe it’s due to the quality. The space is rather small with total of around 12-15 seats in the whole place.
Shizen Ya serves a selection of simple Japanese dishes with a healthy and authentic twist. I’m impressed by the freshness of the sashimi, particularly the wild sockeye salmon. Some dishes were a bit basic, but rolls such as the Geisha Roll were very creatively done and tasted amazing with the touches of black sesame paste.
Amazing food, close to downtown and west end. Geisha rolls are melt-in-your-mouth-delicious. Go before 12 or after 1 to beat the lunch rush.
