The Ranch Pub132 ave @219th-ishWell that sucked…….I had to give them a try, I’ve been hearing about this incredible hamburger and fries deal for only $3.99 on Wednesday and thought well how bad can it be, only $3.99, I can afford to give them a shot for that price right?Wrong, it sucked, well no that’s not fair to places that merely suck, it really freaking sucked major big time Olympic level of suckiness. Not the whole experience mind you, I did give the waitress a decent tip, no matter how bad the food is it’s not her fault. This was our first time eating here and the missus and I thought it was a nice looking place, country charm, decent decor, makes you feel at home in the country, and I would like to come back maybe in the summer for a drink and watch the horses running around, they are next to an equestrian centre. But that’s all beside the point, the food was horrible.I know, some of you are going to say what did you expect for $3.99? To be honest, not much. I realize that they are doing this at a loss, there’s no way to make money offering this much food for such a low price, it’s a marketing ploy, pick a slow day of the week and offer a great deal to get people in the door, especially if you are in an out of the way location that won’t get any drive by business, you have to look to find this place. That being said, it’s all for naught if the food is no good. And trust me, this was no good, which is a real shame. Now some of you know that I’m usually quite quick to praise, in fact I rarely give a bad review, you really have to work at being bad to experience my wrath. So let’s see where they went wrong. It wasn’t the portion size, it was very generous. And the classic nature of the combo, well it’s hard to go wrong with a burger and fries. No, where they went wrong was with the quality of food and the execution. You can’t serve cold, substandard food and expect people to want to come back.We both had the special, which is another point, since it was our first time there how were we to know what the deal was? When the waitress came over and asked what we wanted I said I’d like to see a menu first. Apparently I was supposed to know all about the burgers and not want anything else. I’m sure that the regulars come on Wednesday night and don’t even need to place an order but it was our first time and although I heard rumours of a burger special I really think they should at least give us menus and tell us about the specials, you can’t assume everyone knows it’s what you are expected to order. And herein lies the problem, they expect great masses of people to order the same thing so they pre-cook all of it.Imagine great big piles of cooked burgers, buns, and toppings sitting in a cooler waiting for the masses come piling in, and then being slapped together rapidly, not the best way to ensure fresh cooked quality is it?Assembly lines are the model of efficiency in manufacturing cars, not hamburgers. I expect my burgers to be cooked AFTER I place my order. What I received was so disappointing, cold bun, cold patty, FROZEN BACON, yes seriously, we both added bacon to our orders and received FROZEN SOLID BACON!It gets worse, I know, unbelievable right? The patties were huge, and hugely inedible. I did not expect such a massive burger, to be honest I would have been happier with a smaller one simply cooked properly. It’s not quantity over quality people.Make it FRESH, make it RIGHT, make a QUALITY product and people will come back!On the other hand my wife did like the fries,……I didn’t.To sum it up, location, decor, general ambiance, all very nice. Food……….-2.And that’s what really counts.
Good neighburhood pub. Food was so so, well, the fries were crap. But that’s just fries. The girl working the bar was very friendly and calm (despite getting pumped on st Patrick’s day). I’ll be going back, I’ll take the ranch over your average chain restaurant/pub any day!!
Went for 2 dollar burger wed. Pretty good burger (and I’m not usually a fan) get there early bc by the time 6 comes around there no tables left. Only complaint was the service was a little slow and she wasn’t very attentive
