King’s Palace – no longer King!. My husband and I have been going to King’s Palace in Wpg for more than 20 years. We were there Nov 27th, there was no one in the restaurant (which used to be unusual), the food definitely was not up to the taste and quality that we have come to expect. We understand the owners have changed and the last time we were there (probably 2 mths ago) we were told it’s the same cook but I doubt that is the case, maybe the chef changed since we were last there? Service was unattentive and the waiter could have cared less if we liked the food. It is sad to say but I don’t see us going back there again. Need to find a new great authentic Chinese place again. Sad day… 🙁
Not impressed. This was my absolute favorite Chinese restaurant , but sad to say its not the restaurant it was , new owners just not the same going to miss the good old days
The King Has Fallen Off His Throne. BEWARE! There have been some major changes at the restaurant, including what we figure is a change of owner. To start, no more liquor or beer available (waitress said they had no license). The decor has been changed to white paper opening hour signs. Food was terrible, slimy with MSG (sadly, this used to be one of the few Chinese food restaurants that didn’t use MSG). Fresh food is definitely not in the Chef’s vocab, he clearly likes no name frozen! Had a pineapple chicken dish that tasted like the chicken had been marinated in water and our shrimp dish was full of the tiny, grocery store sale bin shrimp and stale cashews – food was such a disappointment. But wait, it gets even better (NOT!), on a night where the outside temperature is -17…there was NO heat. A tiny little space heater, and I mean tiny! was providing heat to the entire dining room. You would think that the staff might have been tipped off that every customer in the place had their parkas and hats on! Will NOT be returning. So sad to see one of the Winnipeg great’s fall!
Service with a Smile !. Came here tonight with my Little Sister for an early dinner. Neither of us had been here before so we were curious about this little family run restaurant across from the larger more fancier ones.The menu is basic, no shark fin soup (thank God) or Dim Sum but a good selection of standard Chinese fare.We decided on the BBQ Duck, Chicken Chow Mein and a pot of Chinese Tea.The BBQ Duck arrived first and was a good portion though only served barely warm. The skin was not crispy and we peeled it all off as duck skin is too fatty for my liking anyway. The sauce it was in was flavourful though and we both enjoyed it.The Chicken Chow Mein was also pretty good and we finished it all. We really liked the noodles, the toppings were your usual broccoli, carrots, mushrooms, celery, bok choy, snow peas and chicken.Everything was served with a big smile from our Lady server who was very friendly, attentive and refilled our teapot for us !

Wow. A favourite restaurant from nearly 30 years ago. With great trepidation I revisited the restaurant recently. Still great, hasn’t changed.
Probably the best chow mein I’ve had. I like their menu lots to choose from. Buffet is ok.. Not the best… Service is good and its always busy! Soup is good and wings are delicious! I’m a loyal customer especially for family dinners.. They’re one of the top favourite restaurants
