Best Cakes. I have been getting cakes from here for my birthday since the early 90s and they have always been my favorite. The sponge cake with real yummy fruits and the best part the icing is not overly sweet (like many other bakeries) so it’s perfect for people that don’t have much of a sweet tooth. I love this place and the price is very affordable.
Tasty pastries and cakes. Far from mediocre pastries. More like super delicious pastries! Like others have said, go early, right when it opens and the goods are fresh and still warm! I recommend the icing bun! YUM! Also, it’s cash only.
Temptations. We frequent this awesome place .. go there early as most of the good stuff is gone by early afternoon. bring cash or be disappointed.
ABSOLUTELY THE BEST!. I have been going here since they were in Ellice (I would say more than 20 years ago), and I must say their buns and cakes have always been consistently tasty. I love eating their egg tarts, pork buns, curry beef bun, icing bun, pineapple buns, long donuts.. you name it, they have it. And you cant go wrong with the prices ether at approximately a dollar an item. I’ve gone to Hong Kong before, and I must say it is truly comparable to what you would expect over there. A true Winnipeg Gem 🙂
Inexpensive pastries.. I love their egg tarts, pineapple buns, and other pastries here. They’re about $1.25 each and they’re huge. I mean, there’s better in other cities but Maxim is about the best Winnipeg can have at the moment. It’s in an obscure location is the only thing I’d complain about, but it’s not too much of a hassle if at all.

Awesome Ladyfingers. I have been a fan of this place since they were on Main St. and Ellice Ave. I’ve had their Chinese sponge cakes and it’s pretty good. They don’t have as much selection as they used to but the taste is pretty consistent. They sell these little ladyfingers and they’re so good. It’s not too sweet and just right.
