I’m a regular and I’m here about once a month, usually after 8pm. The food is always consistently good. I’m a dim sum fan and everything is good. The servers are always polite and can offer suggestions, just ask. Most nights, there are between 15 – 20 people. The prices are excellent.
Honestly I don’t know what this place isn’t rated higher! Everything was so good! Literally no complaints! Can’t wait to go again! Shrimp-stuffed tofu was probably my favourite, but everything was scrumdidiliumptious!
Didn’t try anything from the $2.70 dim sum menu. Ordered 3 of the larger $12 plates. None of them were great. No rice like in most oriental restaurants. Atmosphere is quite clean but just one huge square room filled with people. Service below average. You get one small glass of water with no offers to refill.
I cannot get over how fresh, hot and delicious everything was. The sticky rice was amazing and tasty, but it was the Chinese perogies that most impressed me. The pork inside was really well-seasoned, but the dough was something really special. It was crispy on the outside, a little bit gooey and sticky inside, and a bit sweet as well. The sweetness went perfectly with the pork inside. My only complaint was that the Vietnamese spring rolls were way too oniony for my taste. All in all though, this was the best dim sum I’ve had in Winnipeg.
Sam Po’s dim sum has improved significantly since it first opened. The decor of the restaurant is nice, it’s quite modern looking. We ordered 12 dishes of dim sum for the four of us at our most recent visit. The dim sum were okay, they were definitely not the best dim sum in town. Some of the items were fairly greasy, especially with the deep fried pork and vegetables perogies, and BBQ pork pastries. However, their BBQ pork in their buns/pastries is really good! Please note that the place is not equipped for those who have disabilities as the only access point to the washroom is through a long flight of stairs to the basement. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend going to Sam Po for dim sum if you have a refined pallet. However, if you’re looking for a place nearby for a quick lunch, Id highly recommend you to go check it out! The service is quick and you can easily squeeze that in your lunch hour!
Stopped here after a meeting and found that the service was nice and fast for a quick afternoon lunch. Eggplant stuffed with shrimp and garlic black bean sauce was delicious and well rounded with flavour. Definitely not over powering and the eggplant was wonderfully tender/melt in your mouth. Had shrimp spring rolls which were ok, as well as the pork bites/wonton wrapped meatballs (don’t remember the name) which were nothing spectacular to call mom about, with fairly neutral flavour but I generally expected this. One of them had a little more grizzle than I would had preferred.. and it wasn’t mistaken for the water chestnut. Had shrimp dumplings and they were average and what I expected, but nonetheless, tasty!! The golden dumplings (dessert) were a very delicious finale to the quick meal. Oozing with butter, sugar and custard all over my fingers… mmmmm. Prices we’re very reasonable. If you like Dim sum and looking for a quick service and clean traditional servings, I would say that San Po is a safe bet. Give them a try and decide for yourself!
One of the best dim sum menus in the city for the price, especially during happy hour. Easily 20-30 choices, with literally only 1, yes 1, excluded from the happy hour price. Service is very quick. We usually order 15 or so dims and they are out on the table in 10-15 mins. The size of each dim is also very generous for the price.
