The Swizzle Styx dined here this week and really enjoyed it. This is such a cozy little place and the aromas of delicious food hit you as soon as you walk in. The only reason I didn’t give it a perfect rating was the service, our waitress was very obviously inexperienced and there were some mishaps. She tried and she was pleasant enough and we still tipped her well but an experienced server would have made the visit perfect. The food was fabulous and we will be back.

The outside of this French restaurant looks quite rundown. However, the inside has recently been revamped so it is decent. The restaurant itself is quite small so it’s always best to make a reservation ahead of time. We have been here a few times, the food is alright, the service is always meh because there’s generally only one server on staff at a time even for a Saturday night. I try to come here just for desserts because they have a decent selection of homemade cakes, pies and crme brulee. At our most recent visit, we were very disappointed with the service and the food, which made us to have zero desire to ever come back again. We ordered a Charcuterie board and it was a mistake. On the menu, it stated that there would be 4 types of meat. We only received three. The board that was served to us consisted of Prosciutto, Roasted Beef, Salmon (raw not smoked), Pickled vegetables and Chutney Sauce, which we were told was cranberry sauce. We were unimpressed with the service overall. #1) we were never informed that the kitchen ran out of cured meat prior to placing the order. We had to inquire about the missing ingredient of the order after the Charcuterie board was served. Even then we were told that we only should get 3 until we proved it with the menu, at which point the server said oh, well that’s why the portions are larger (they weren’t by the way).#2) We were told that the Charcuterie board came with cranberry sauce. We found that it was in fact chutney sauce after trying it ourselves. We were very disappointed with the service overall.

I get the slow food thing. But the food should warrant the wait, and it doesn’t always. Extremely hit and miss, and the misses are significant, not worth the wait nor the cost. Salade nioise, soupe l’oignon, coquilles st. Jacques are safe bets.

I just tried this place this past weekend with a group of friends for brunch. There were about nine of us and we all ordered different dishes. I got the Canadian which came with their house made sausage. Both the sausage and bacon that came with my dish were delicious, not the usually limp breakfast meat you get at other places. The crabapple jam that came with it was also quite tasty. Other people ordered eggs Benedict, crepes and sandwiches and it all looked amazing. There was only one server and one cook on staff during our visit and some dishes did get mixed up but that happens. This place was a quaint delight that I will definitely be checking out again!

I love this place! The owner is an excellent chef with talent to spare. I enjoy going there after a concert because it takes no time to reach from the concert hall if I travel down Logon to Arlington and right at Portage. Liking it as much as I do I dropped in with a friend who was in from Montreal and had Duck Pizza. Great stuff. I recommend it highly.

Very pleasant little bistro with excellent food and service. The quality of the meals is A+. The offerings are very creative and delicious! The deserts are irresistible!

Hits and misses.Asian avocado and shrimp salad – beautifully presented, nicely dressed – would benefit from a tad more acid in the dressing – rice wine vinegar perhaps?Eggs in peppers and tomato stew were perfectly cooked – but the stew was bland – no garlic, no acid, not seasoned enough – forgettable, unfortunately. The chef is meticulous and focussed, but working solo to knock out 20 plates leaves no time for tasting, it seems. He could use an assistant.Service – shows poor training. Waited for dinner partner for 15 minutes – she never asked if I would like a drink while I waited; partner arrived – still had to wait 10 minutes to be offered a drink: very poor tone – not welcoming. Server needs to move with intention – a small room needs to be constantly cleared, reset, and surveyed. Some guidance is in order.Room is small but pleasant. Priced right. Good wine list.
