Dined here Friday night and I don’t think I’d go back. Incredibly slow service and absolutely zero atmosphere. We tried two dishes, the vegetarian platter which was OK, and then a beef dish of some sort that we couldn’t even eat it tasted awful. It was our second choice of a beef dish, the first one we couldn’t have because they didn’t have any of that type of beef on hand. Basically I just wasn’t impressed here.
Excellent food and service. I went with two friends and we all enjoyed the food. I had never eaten Ethiopian food before. Portion sizes were big. I would definitely go back!
Wow! Welcoming service. I felt like a guest in an Ethiopian family’s home. I’ve traveled to Ethiopia and this wonderful meal brought back great memories!Inexpensive for the portion sizes.I’ll definitely go again!
Went here for birthday dinner. AMAZING food! We tried the meat platter and the Merkato platter. Super cute lady that served us, boy can she cook! Left stuffed with no room for cake! Nice blend of flavors, spiciness and the injera was great! Will definitely be back 🙂
Mostly good food and quick service. The lentil sambosas were excellent with lots of flavor from the greens. The chicken dish (the one with the boiled egg) was pretty meagre–one fragment of chicken breast and an egg for $12 is not reasonable, but the other dishes were good.
Favourite Ethiopian in Winnipeg. I’ve been going to this restaurant for about 12 years and have compared it to a few of the other ones that have popped up in the last few years. I always end up back at Merkato. I usually get the veggie combo and prefer their version – I’ve found they include an extra option or two when compared to other places (and it doesn’t include the iceberg lettuce salad that most other places tend to put on – I don’t care for it personally). The meat combo is always another great choice. It’s a bit out of the way if you’ve never been there before but well worth it. Unlike many other Ethiopian restaurants in the city, I’ve never had a long wait for food or service and it always tastes fresh and well prepared. Hoping I can keep going for another 12 years.
Best winnipeg has to offer.. Good food served really fast!! I will return a million times over.
