I love coming here if I am in the exchange district. I enjoy the Sashimi and Wakame Salad. The presentation is always good, yet the service can become quite slow at lunch. This is expected as I only seen one server for the entire restaurant. I would recommend any sushi lovers to check this place out if you have the time.
The atmosphere was friendly and the service was polite, but a bit absent, as there just seemed to be one wait staff for the restaurant and it was quite full. The rolls weren’t particularly refined and the rice had a slightly gummy quality. But, the tuna sashimi was flavourful, though the slices were a bit thick/chunky.
Sushi rice tasted like a jasmine rice and some special rolls such as BEN and LOBSTER ROLLS are too pricy for its taste. Couldn’t taste the lobster in the lobster roll. Definitely won’t go back again to this sushi resto.
One of the best sushi places in Winnipeg. You have to have a thick wallet when you go here but well worth it. A+ for flavourA+ for serviceA+ value for your dollar
Came here for lunch with a co-worker. There’s lots of sushi restaurants downtown and this place has to work really hard to set themselves apart! I would say Blufish tries to distinguish themselves with quality as their prices are definitely higher than average! In terms of decor and service, there really isn’t anything to complain about. We were greeted right away and the waitress was attentive. I liked the darker and quiet ambiance of the restaurant and I can see taking my wife here before seeing a show.Roll sizes were generous and well made. If I were craving maki or nigiri, I think there are many other places downtown which give you much better value. For lunch, the only thing I would come here for would be the specialty rolls or the lunch boxes. You get a generous portion of food and it comes out quick! For dinner, many of the other sushi places downtown close and if you’re catching a show at MTC or WSO, this restaurant is only a few blocks away and would be ideal for dinner!
I’m trying hard to not be unfair in this review, but to get straight to the point: I most likely won’t be going back. For one thing, I’m relatively new to the world of sushi, and have been only eating at highly-rated restaurants (4.0+). Putting ratings aside, Blufish was definitely on mylistof must-tries because of the hype, and, because I work in the area Ithought I’d give it a go. I ordered the sunrise roll(yam tempura and avocado with salmon on top anddrizzled with unagi sauce)and toro nigiri. Now, I’ve haddynamite good sushi before, and whenever I order a tempura style roll it’s usually a bit warm andhasa definite crunch – not so with the sunrise roll atBlufish, there was hardly anyyam tempura and the rollslacked that bit of warmth and crunchthat I enjoy so much-a hint that maybe thetempura wasn’t crazy fresh.I also found there to be wayyyy too much unagi sauce as itoverpoweredthe taste. The toro nigiri was alright, enjoyed the taste of the fish but there was hardly any rice underneath to balance it out.Itwas my first time tryingraw tuna and i’d definitely order it again elsewhere. All in all, I got 6 smallish sunrise rolls and one piece of toro nigiri and my tab was over 15$. Next time I’ll just walk a little further across the Provencher Bridge to SushiKuni.
Food is of good quality. The price is a bit high compared to other places in the city. Considering the location (Downtown) its not surprising that you pay a bit extra though. The menu is decent, if you like sushi, you will definitely find what you like. It has more fusion rolls (but I like traditional and simple one ingredient rolls).
