About 20-30 for just the meal. Smallish portions, but the quality of the ingredients is great. Most servers and chefs are RRC students and the menu is always changing.

After frequenting the downtown/exchange district for years scoping out new up-and-coming restaurants I finally made an unexpected trip to janes. It was a trip worth making and one I intend to make again. Set in a beautifully restored building, janes seeks to please. As a culinary school -nothing but perfection is delivered. From exceptional service to perfectly cooked food, with just the right amount of seasoning, to the creamiest of cappuccinos; I was left satisfied.

Can here for dinner with the family. Service was very attentive and the restaurant interior was very well appointed. The ambiance and decor really blew me away as we entered the restaurant.Food was definitely interesting. I ordered the pan seared scallops to start and then the Vegetable Wellington. My wife got the short ribs. Both meals we’re very tasty. For the price, the meals were a tad small, but definitely A+ for flavour.Apparently the staff are mostly students studying culinary at the Red River College. Glad there is a means for them to practice what they learn.

The restaurant is absolutely beautiful, like something you would see in a movie with tall ceilings and great acoustics. They brought out delicious complimentary fresh breads with herbs and cheese, butter and fig spread. Had sptzle for an appetizer, and pork belly with scallops for the Main. Both were delicious, and the portion sizes were on point. Got the baked Alaska for dessert, which was a little heavy on the meringue (I’ve had better) but they prepared it at our table, which was a neat experience. I was very impressed with the dinner overall, and the students at RRC did an excellent job. What a great concept.

This place blew away all my expectations. Make the reservation and head down for lunch. I had the french onion soup and the brown butter fish. The soup was rich and flavourful. The fish was perfectly cooked and it wasn’t overly heavy or greasy with the butter.

Jane’s is unlike anything I’ve experienced in Winnipeg. The service is like something out of a 5 star resort. Your dishes all arrive at the same time, and servers line up at the door as you leave to say goodbye. The building is stunning and design is impeccable. Our table was way too large for our group and the chairs were very far apart, which was puzzling.I had the gnocchi and it was really delicious. The menu is small and carefully crafted – but this is not something I prefer. It isn’t great to have an event here when there is only 1 vegetarian main dish option. With these small complaints aside, I would definitely return as the service and quality of food was so great. I hear they switch up their menu quite often.

Great atmosphere with the old bank archatecture, unique in Winnipeg. Had the lamb shank and the Pad Thai. Lamb shank was tasty and fall off the bone tender. Pad Thai was a little different than we’ve had in the past but still very good. I take it the servers as students are just learning as well as ours made some little mistakes considering the fine dining atmosphere they strive for. For example asking every time if we wanted our wAter topped up. Water is just topped up without the need to ask. She also came to check on us way to often and spoke way to quiet. But sure with more time they get better. The food quality more than compensates for the rookie service.
