I was here for a business dinner a couple of weeks and it was my first visit. The three of us had trouble deciding, and I think it was partly because many of the entree items seemed similar. I had the steak tartare, the bison meatloaf, and the crme brle. Overall it was good. The tartare and the dessert were probably the best dishes, the meatloaf was ok though it could have used more vegetables. I didnt have any alcohol, but a colleague who drinks said the selection was great. Everyone enjoyed their meal. The service was very professional and quick, and the restaurant had a very nice atmosphere. I dont understand the reviewer who said the place was pretentious, as its pretty laid back and I enjoyed being in the space. Parking was easy (Thursday night). This isnt the kind of food I seek out in a restaurant, but Id gladly go again and would recommend it to someone whos into this type of cooking.

This place is never a disappointment! It’s semi-upscale restaurant located in the Exchange district. It’s an excellent place for dinner, dessert or even just for drinks.Parking is terrible in the area as expected because of the nature of the location so be prepared to take a walk down the block if you do drive! The food is fairly reasonably priced. In terms of service, like any other restuanants, it could be a hit and miss depending on the server. At my past few visits, the service has mostly been great.Costumers were served with fresh warm bread to start. At our most recent visit, we ordered the Charcuterie board. It had a wide selection of dry cured meat, including meat that you wouldn’t normally get elsewhere, ie prosciutto duck.We had the Berkshire Pork. It was very good. It was one of the largest piece of porks we had ever seen. It was crusted with cornmeal so it gave the pork a bit of a crispy texture to it.We also had the lamb pie. It was not a typical pie that was served with flaky pastry. It was served with ground lamb shoulder, peas, carrots and curried mashed potato in a cast iron skillet. The pie itself did not look too appetizing, however, it was absolutely delicious!Peasant Cookery has excellent desserts too!The Maple Tart was very good. It was not overly sweet and it was perfect! The vanilla bean creme brulee is a classic and you just cannot go wrong with it!There was a wide selection of sorbet to choose from at my most recent visit. We had the Green Apple Moscato Sorbet. It was good but it just wasn’t how we had anticipated it to be so we probably wouldn’t get that flavour again. The bread pudding was excellent. It was served with almond tuile and brandied caramel sauce. It was paired with Guinness ice cream. I would highly recommend it!Overall, I would highly recommend Peasant Cookery. It is an excellent place for special occasions and date nights.
