Food was amazing! Very flavorful, big portions and lots of options. We had to wait a while for our food but it was very much worth the wait. We will be back.
High prices compared to far superior Thai restaurants in the city. My large soup (takeout) had minimal vegetables in it, most of which, I should add, were frozen mixed vegetables (as in peas and carrots)….. Not what I was expecting. The flavor of the soup was so so – nothing to write home about. All in all- if you’re in a pinch in the south end, it’ll do, but I’ll drive the extra 15 min for better Thai food.
I dined here and I was very impressed. Each dish was delicious and the spice was just right. We ordered a curry soup, a stir fry dish, and a yellow curry noodle. Each were great, I loved them all. This is a great new choice for Thai food in the city. Service was nice. They just need to have some music playing or something to create some kind of atmosphere. Wonderful place to get great food!
I dont know why reviews are low. I went here last week for the first time and everything that i had ordered were pretty good! Server is really nice too. Food was amazing!!!
Food here is so delicious and healthy!! Their green curry made with coconut milk is so full of flavor. If you are sensitive to spicy foods though, order mild. Great FAST service and fresh food. I will be coming back!
Food is always fresh and delicious! Lots of different seafood options and not overcooked. Friendly service. Consistent every time we come! Would highly recommend.
Not bad, but not great. That would be my summary of Coconut Island. The old Szechwan restaurant got a make over and went Thai. Inside, the bright colours on the walls and digital prints of Thai landmarks and elephant scenes set the atmosphere for a Thai experience. They have quite a large menu that is reasonably priced. My wife and I went on March 17 for dinner and had a selection of items. The green papaya salad was pretty good, except I think our waitress got my order and our shared salad mixed up because the salad was super spicy (like I ordered my entree). Great flavours, but that was about the end of the good dishes we ordered. We also ordered spring rolls. They were ok, nothing to make them stand apart from anywhere else.My wife had the Tom Kha with chicken. The broth was good, but there was hardly any other veg in the soup than mushrooms. Was lacking that hit of lemongrass and was a bit sweet for her tastes.I had the red curry with tofu. As mentioned earlier, we got the heat in the salad, but I had ordered my curry spicy and there was none. All in all, the main issue was that Thai food is supposed to strike that magical balance between sweet, sour, spicy, salty. We found none of that really here. The soup was mostly sweet with no sour, salty or spice. The city was nice, but lacking in depth of flavour. We’ll likely try them again after they’ve been open a while longer, but with other places in the city like Magic Thai, it’s going to be hard for Coconut Island to win us over.
