Just went for a company Xmas lunch at the gates. First time there – always a bit nervous about trying new places like this. I always have it in the back of my mind now that attending with a group will equal limited menu (Thx Pineridge Hollow for making me such a bitter soul. Pls see my review on them for further details on why I discourage everyone I talk to from eating there). But I digress – back to the Gates! Lunch menu had excellent variety. We were NOT limited to a few items, even though there were 16 of us. Food arrived promptly, and was simply outstanding! Portion size was good. Quality was absolutely over the top. Really. Def check this place out. Highly recommended. Can’t say enough good things!
Came for Sunday brunch. Loved the setting, the live music, and the overall vibe. The food was okay; you get what you pay for. The service on the other hand was horrible. The server failed to do so much (didn’t introduce himself, let us know where the buffet even was, completely ignored our attempts at small talk AND didn’t refill our drinks even when we politely asked him to (he said he’d be right back but went to clear a few tables next to us instead)). Had such high hopes for this place considering the hype I’ve been hearing. Now I’m debating if they’re worth a second chance.
Loved the atmosphere. It took a while to get our order but it must have been because we dine with a few couples of friends. There were a few selections to choose from. I ordered chicken and to my disappointment it was a little bloody. Other friends who ordered the same menu got bloody meals too….
Disappointing experience. Nice ambiance but slow service and the food was just ok. We had the escargot starter and it had minimal taste and there were so many mushrooms it was hard to tell where the escargot were in the dish. Not likely going back.
Quite pricey for what they offer – I mean, would it kill you to use fresh veggies with the entrees rather than frozen veggies. As for their overall menu, the salad and soup selection is quite limited and not much else seemed interesting. I ordered the pickerel which came with a mango chutney. The mango chutney tasted more like a really bad, overly sweet jam. And it covered the entire pickerel – I couldn’t eat any of it. Just not worth the price or the time it took. Will not return.
A Glorified Denny’s. When I arrived at The Gates restaurant I was welcomed inside with a small waiting time. Eventually the hostess escorted us to our table. Yet, on the way to our table I saw that we were being placed right in the back of the restaurant. The resemblance to an ordinary Denny’s was uncany! The food took quite an unusual amount of time to arrive, and it was NOT worth the wait. I would be disappointed to eat at The Gates again let alone have my wedding there!
