Gone here for lunch and got the lunch special. We had the spicy Salmon, spicy tuna, California and dynamite rolls. The sushi was very dry. Thank goodness it came with miso soup to help wash it down. The rolls werent cut evenly, so there were big rolls and small ones. Ton of rice and not much fish. I don’t think I’ll ever come back. The service was good though. Very friendly.
Didnt feel like cooking and wanted to order take out. This is the first time Ive ever done sushi takeout. More often than not, I find the presentation pretty lacking and things like Tempura just dont survive takeout very well. Nevertheless, my family wanted sushi so we decided to hit up Umi as we eat there every now and then for dine-in.Ordering was simple enough, menu is online and also available through Skip-The-Dishes delivery. After phoning the order in, pick up was available as promised and the process was prompt. The maki rolls as usual were great! I really like Umis California roll as they dont try to skimp like other places and sneak in any shredded cucumber. Same thing with their Goma Ai Roll, it is purely spinach tossed in a sesame dressing, no cucumber which can dilute the flavour. The Tempura, was as expected. Not that it is Umis fault, Tempura simply doesnt survive sitting in a takeout box. The specialty rolls tasted great, but things like the Firecracker Roll or Umi Special Roll look way better when presented properly.Unfortunately, the salmon sashimi was a pretty big miss. There were a few fish scales found throughout the pieces. Worse, there was one piece with a bone in it. This is unacceptable! One is paying an extreme premium for sashimi. The expectation is that you should be provided with a premium cut, with a premium level of service applied to it.Sushi at Umi is very tasty and they have coupons in the Show and Save. Theres definitely no shortage of sushi restaurants in the area, but you cant go wrong with Umi.
