The food here is phenomenal. The service can be a bit slow, but i think they mostly have volunteers and the food can take a bit longer to make than expected, but who cares. None of this matters. This is what matters: The actual food, the quality, the taste, the flavors… it’s fantastic food, and thats all that matters. Every single thing ive had here has been a solid 8/10 at least. YUM!

This is one of my favourite places in Winnipeg. First off I will declare my bias. My daughter volunteers here. And if you happen to go when she is volunteering, and she has time, she will do something artistic for your latte or hot chocolate just for that added touch. Yes, I said volunteers. Sam’s is a not for profit establishment that puts its profits back into social service projects and so relies on a whole bunch of volunteers to help bring about what it does. As a result, you might find that it’s not the quickest place in town. That’s okay. It’s also a used bookstore, so grab your cappuccino and browse around and enjoy this little bubble in your day and just breathe. Or if you’re in a hurry, phone ahead and ask for a take out. They’ll do that. The food is great. It is not the same old stuff you get in every other restaurant in Winnipeg. Different flavours and tastes to try and lots of healthy options. Great coffee, teas and desserts, too. And absolutely grab a chocolate bar to store in your desk for a nibble later in the afternoon. It’s really good chocolate. Last time I was there with a group from work and one co-worker had celiac disease, most of the menu was available to her as they can substitute gluten free bread on the sandwiches and relatively few of the other menu items have ingredients with gluten. I love the atmosphere of the place. I often come just to have coffee with a friend because it’s such a good place to talk. My only warning is you probably won’t leave without something you want to read.

A Real Gem!. I very much enjoyed Sam’s Place! It’s a lovely restaurant/cafe/book store/entertainment venue in an unassuming building on Henderson Highway near Disreili. Besides great food, they sell fair trade chocolate and coffees. Sam’s Place is a book store to boot, with a great well organized selection to browse through. There is a lot of attention to detail here. Everything looks clean, comfortable and inviting. The big burgundy bucket chairs are very cozy, and swivel for added enjoyment. Each table has a vase of fresh flowers which made a very cold Winnipeg afternoon feel special.Servers and staff are friendly and accommodating. We were served by two delightful gently supervised young ladies in training. Emanating kindness, everyone was polite, courteous, and genuinely interested in making their customers happy. We were very pleased to be treated to a jam session that takes place often on Saturday afternoons. Other events include poetry slams, films, and various musical guests.Lunch was delicious and plentiful. I had a tasty buckwheat noodle Thai salad with crispy vegetables and just a hint of peanut sauce. My friend had an equally delicious chicken salad with feta, accompanied by home made focaccia bread which she very much enjoyed.Their loose teas were wonderful! We will definitely return to try other tantalizing menu items, or enjoy a coffee and dessert while listening to their talented musicians.

Amazing food, great service. I’ve gone to Sam’s Place many times and love the casual atmosphere and fantastic food. They aren’t perfect, as they work with youth and volunteers, but that’s one of the reasons I go. The whole place just feels real. Volunteers serve you because they care, not because they are trying to get money out of you. And their Roast Beef sandwich is delicious!

Folks, the baking here is amazing. My sweet tooth has never been disappointed, especially by the ginger cake with lemon sauce. Usually have good gluten free options as well.

Favourite lunch spot!. Love this place! I have come here a handful of times for lunch and have loved my meal every time. The sandwiches are really creative and delicious. They use seasonal and local ingredients. I think they make their own bread for the sandwiches…it is amazing! This place is a perfect atmosphere to get some work done during the day. It’s usually pretty quiet and something about being surrounded by books makes me feel productive. This is not a place to come if you are in a rush, but it’s a great place to pass a couple of hours working, reading, or chatting with friends.

Not perfect but we often love it. Sometimes the food is fantastic, unfortunately, sometimes really bad…Staff changes often because of the volunteer staff, so a crapshoot. They really do need to deal with the food aspect & then I’ll happily change my rating. Hard to judge a menue item which has pleased in the past, but annoyed the palate the next try. Our last time there, only one person on staff at lunchtime. When should this happen? NEVER. Nice looking website which doesn’t work as well as it should, sometimes waiting and waiting for info to download. The stage, entertainment is a fun addition, if they can keep online calendar updated this would work in their favour.
