Came here for lunch on a late Sunday afternoon. We were shocked how busy it was. In fact, the wife and I actually took the last small table in the house.There were lots of staff on hand and they did their best to bring tea and take our orders in a timely manner. The congee we ordered came out lightning fast and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Subsequently our dim sum and noodles took nearly forever to come out. We actually had to ask the waitress to follow up on one of our orders. The rest of the food ended up actually tasting pretty good. So I will give them credit for that.This is our second time coming here and experiencing service issues… Because of the convenient location, decent price and since the food does actually taste good, I will likely come back. It looks like I’m not alone in that opinion since it is busy.
Got the 11 course seafood combo for only $240. Came here with 8 people for Valentine’s Day. Food was excellent, fresh and tasty except a few dishes were warm/chill. Service was good too. Great price compared to the 9 course meal at Kum Koon for $315.
New review for this place because it’s under new management. They no longer offer the dinner buffet, but they offer a so-so lunch buffet.Their dim sum is great and happy hour prices a steal. Great quality food!For regular a-la-carte, very good too. Their noodles are top notch, fried rice is good, their stuffed black bean eggplant is A+, and their butter fried chicken? Very buttery without all the grease touching your lips.
Change in management = change in opinion. We recently visited Southland because it was some time since our last dining there. We immediately noticed a change in staff so I had inquired if there was a change in management. I was told new owners had taken over. It was a huge disappointment. The menu was no longer appealing and no buffet. We decided to place an order but were not at all pleased. We found the food to be very bland and most of the meat dishes were tough. Will not go back.
This was the worst take out food I have ever had! We got chow mein and it was so dry it was hard to eat. We got pork chops with spicey salt and 70% of the dish DID NOT even contain pork! We got half a box of fried batter with no meat inside. I have never had take out this bad. I assume it was because it was late night and they knew after I left it would be difficult to complain to them after I left so maybe thats why they gave us such terrible food who knows. Do not waste your money at this place as its just a rip off and there are many chinese restuarants in the area that all much better than southkand.
Awesome food. Great food here; my favorite by far is the beef in black bean/garlic. as someone who lifts, i look for meat; they surprisingly give a lot of beef, or any kind of protein, really. Their wonton soups are massive, very worth the price. iI have been going to Southland for some time now (~5y) and i haven’t been disappointed.
