I think the price and the quality correspond in this restaurant. The sushis are pretty good (not super delicious, but still good) and they are not expensive like in some other restaurants. I go there pretty often, especially on Fridays, after work, when the fridge is empty… :))) It’s really close to my home.Sometimes, we eat there, inside, sometimes I call them and pick up the sushis in 30 min. I have to say that I prefer picking up the sushis as inside the restaurant is not very clean, the walls and the tables are somewhat chipped and really need some painting… and the carpet in front of the counter, where you pay, is soo sticky… yes, the place doesn’t look very pleasant… to be honest, even their washroom is much cleaner than the restaurant itself. Sometimes it makes me reflect about the cleanliness and safety of the food… but as I’ve been using this restaurant for a while and have never had any stomach problem… I put 4.5 for now. :))
I was craving sushi at work and happily stumbled on this place. My order of salmon sashimi was massive as were the pieces and very fresh tasting. All the rolls I ordered were good too- and really big portions. I’ve never seen bigger pieces of avocado at a sushi place- and again all the avocado was fresh. I wish this place was closer to my house!
Stopped in for takeout after the dentist (located in the same strip mall) and was pleasantly surprised! The chef and staff member were very friendly, and the sushi was very fresh. I enjoyed the salmon roll, shrimp bakudan roll and the chopped scallop roll. My one suggestion is for the scallop roll to be a bit smaller as the large pieces had fallen apart and were therefore difficult to eat. My boyfriend enjoyed his udon dish and the yam and cream cheese roll. Will definitely return the next time we’re in Windsor Park – definitely a great addition to the area.UPDATE: ordered takeout this week and there was no cream cheese in my yam and cream cheese roll. I would’ve assumed it was a one-off but they didn’t put the cream cheese in that same roll when I ordered it in January while dining in. Also, and more importantly, the shrimp in the dynamite roll was very fishy, and the salmon in the salmon bakudan roll wasn’t fresh. I’m not too impressed and more so just disappointed as I really wanted to like this place.
Went here for the first time the other day. It’s a small place and the one server seemed very overwhelmed for the amount of customers there. Their tempura was good, the goma ae was alright. I ordered a California and dynamite roll and they were ok. Ebi nigiri was not edible.
First of all, let me say we were pleasantly surprised by Kai Sushi. We stopped in for a Saturday lunch with low expectations. Turns out the Sushi was quite good. Portion sizes were large and some of the rolls were hard to handle because they were quite big. Sashimi was also some of the biggest and thickest cuts I’ve ever seen. Everything tasted good and you get and prices are quite good. As far as these fake reviews go ( note they have one review only and it’s a ridiculously glowing one ) I’m calling BS and disappointed that owners or friends do this. As for the one claiming to have been converted from Wasabi on Broadway, give your head a shake. Wasabi on Broadway is far and away the best Sushi restaurant in Winnipeg. only Edohi was better when Ohno San was there. Be careful what you believe friends.
Kai Sushiis a small little restaurant in Windsor Park. I live in the area and never noticed it honestly, but I’m glad I finally tried it. The rolls we ordered were all very good, quite largeand reasonably priced. The agedashi tofu was amazing! Huge portion compared to a lot of other sushi places and so crispy! Service was friendly. The only disappointment was that it wasn’t licensed and we were hoping to have a drink with dinner, but no big deal. The dcor is not bad for a little place like this, but it could use a little TLC – there were some large dents/chips in the drywall and booths which detracts from the ambiance a bit. Overall, I liked it and would go back.Update: Return visit on Aug 14, 2015 and they are now licensed. A few beers and wines available.
The Best Sushi in Winnipeg. Me and a friend had dinner at Kai Sushi last night. The food was outstanding in every way. I have not eaten at every Sushi restaurant in Winnipeg but I have eaten at many of them. The Sushi at Kai exceeds all of the others — by a good margin. Everything is very flavourful, very fresh and also has excellent texture. Even the Miso soup is outstanding! Portion sizes are very good and the price is totally reasonable for the excellent quality you get.I have eaten at top Sushi restaurants in Toronto, Vancouver and throughout the US. The Sushi at Kai compares very favourably to these. If you want outstanding Sushi in Winnipeg then go to Kai — you won’t be disappointed. I’ll certainly be back soon.
