Positive first time trying Vamos Tacos via Skip the Dishes! We got a variety to try: carnitas (pork), barbacoa (beef) and chorizo (ground spicy pork sausage) tacos, and a chicken enchilada, along with rice and refried beans. As is sometimes the case, our delivery guy slaughtered our food by not taking care with transport, so the rice and beans got everywhere, but it was clear that it had been carefully packed by the restaurant and messed up in delivery. The tacos: overall, good, but not great. Each were well seasoned, but carnitas and barbacoa meat were both on the dry side, though flavourful. Chorizo had a nice kick, much more generously spiced than expected and not greasy at all to the point where these too could have used some added moisture. All three came with lettuce, diced tomatoes and sour cream to add. Barbacoa had added raw onion (too much) and a taste that reminded me of rewarmed leftovers, they were the least favourite and definitely not worth the extra $1 for three. Id be interested to try the El Pastor, chicken and ground beef next time. The enchilada: super delicious! Loved the tasty, smoky red sauce, chicken was moist and deliciously seasoned, added peppers and onions were unexpected but very welcome. The highlight of the meal, I suspected Ill be craving it in the future and will definitely order this again.
Our party of five enjoyed our first visit to Vamos Tacos. We were seated promptly and given menus – for a smaller family restaurant, their selections were impressive and prices are very reasonable. We’d heard that the food tastes quite authentic so were excited to give it a try. The decor is interesting; some Mexican (sombreros, tablecloths) and some eccentric but colourful. It appeared that the owners (our friendly server and his wife busily working in the kitchen) were the only staff this evening. As a result, food was a bit slow coming to the table but then again, good food takes time. We were given warm homemade tortilla chips and a tomato sauce-like salsa (pico might have been tastier, as it accompanied certain dishes and was available) as a complimentary appetizer. Although the restaurant wasn’t too busy on our visit, there was a steady stream of takeout leaving via Save The Dishes drivers and other customers. A good sign! Among our entrees (served on real dishes; not fast food disposables): the fully-stuffed burrito, tasty enchilada, taco trio and the Vamos Bowl, which is their burrito filling in a nicely presented bowl with chips. Everyone was very pleased with their selections (fresh, hot and delicious) and we are sure to return in the future to try more. Ole!
