This restaurant has consistently being terrible every time we’ve decided to give it a second chance. A couple things that have annoyed me the most are tasting old oil that was used to fry the ginger beef and they must have run out of ginger to create something so blend. Not to mention the chow mein I never knew it could be that blend I can’t say that there has been anything that stood out as being great anytime we have been there or taken out. As well as receiving just one soy sauce and plum sauce consistently when we do take out.Do not go here the food sucks!!
Terrible service. Very bad experiece for 3 times! The averege waiting time of dine-in is 1 hour! Even if there was just our 2 customers in the whole restuanrant, we waited 1 hour for 2 dishes! And the last time the owner forced us to take our meal out and forbide us eating inside at 7pm on Sunday! I am chinese, this is the worst restuanrant I have ever been!
Best Chinese food in the area. I got food here once on a whim and ever since it’s been my go to for my chinese food cravings! Similar to the type of chinese food you’ll find on pembina, but closer to home. The food has never disappointed and the workers/owners have always been friendly. They are always more than happy to help you pick something based on your preferences, or encourage you to try something new! The prices are fair, and even on the lower side if you compare them to nearby chinese restaurants.My favourite dishes here are the lemon chicken, black bean chicken, ginger beef, eggplant and potato, and the chinese vegetables. The sweet and sour soup at Yami is probably the best in Winnipeg!Only problem with this restaurant is that it is not in a chinese area. The taste might be too authentic, which is perfect for me because I don’t have to drive to pembina anymore, but others in the neighbourhood with not such an appreciation for diversity may not be open to it. (based on other reviews)
Great food, but customer service needs improvement. Pros: Generous portions, tasty dishes. I had the lemon chicken, deluxe fried rice, beef & broccoli, and sweet & sour pork with pineapple.Cons: Menu prices had increased but this was not reflected on the paper menu from which I ordered. Secondly, steamed rice was not included even though three of my four dishes are eaten with rice, but I didn’t notice it was missing until I unpacked my order at home. When I called to ask them about delivering some rice to my house, I was told there was no driver available and I would have to come pick it up if I wanted it. Not sure why a restaurant would advertise delivery if they don’t deliver. I don’t think it should be up to me to drive back to get rice that they forgot to include. I would have appreciated a discount on my food or some other compensation. An apology is nice, but it doesn’t guarantee future business.
PICK-UP ORDER CUSTOMER. Was very disappointed with the food quality. Very greasy and a very cheap presentation of the food. Felt like a 10 year old made the food. Lack of vegetables and meat in the dishes. Whatever was there, was cheap looking and of poor quality.We live in the area and after that experience…we will never order from Yami again!
Our favorite for Chinese Food…. Since moving to Canada 7 years ago we have been searching for a decent Chinese Food Restaurant. We have never enjoyed 4-Seasons which appears to be the ‘go to’ Chinese Restaurant in our area. A friend told us about the Winnipeg Free Press review for Yami Garden so we thought we would give it a try, we were not really expecting all that and were very wrong! We have ordered food from this restaurant for pick up or delivery on numerous occasions and have never been left disappointed. The food it always fresh and hot and they look to use top quality ingredients. The Ginger Beef is tasty and tender, not at all chewy. We ordered the Crispy, Spicy Chicken and although it had a 1 chilli pepper rating it was very spicy, I like spicy so it wasn’t an issue, a little hot for the children though. Their chicken chow mein is full of flavor and packed with chicken and veggies, this is a favorite of the children. The Chicken Balls were very doughy with little pieces of chicken, there could be more chicken in these for sure. These are my hubbys choice and I am not really a fan of this dish anyway. I love the spring rolls which you receive free if your order is above $25, they are crispy, not greasy and packed full of fresh veggies. We have never experienced an issue with the overuse of sesame oil as others have described, the flavor combinations have always been very balanced in the dishes we have ordered.
Total Disappointment. Cannot believe positive Free Press review!! We arrived around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 18. We ordered a lot but we always count on taking leftovers home for a future meal. First mistake – small bowl of hot and sour soup – impossible to eat – it was so spicy hot. Each of the remaining four courses arrived about 10 minutes apart – the deluxe rice being the last. The ginger beef was great. Szechuan Pan fried Shrimp was too oily (sesame oil overdone); lemon chicken – same issue. Rice was tasteless. We will not go back. Sorry.
