This is the first time I’ve gone to Yami Garden since the new ownership. Although the new owners are absolutely wonderful…I wish I could say the same for the food! I ordered four dishes and will break them down for you.HOT & SOUR SOUP W/GROUND PORK & EGG NOODLES – This was just a hot mess! Literally! When I got it home and assembled the soup (the noodles & bean sprouts were kept separate) it looked nothing like the picture that tempted me to buy it in the restaurant. I think I found 4-5 pieces of ground pork in the soup. The overbearing chili oil made it greasy and void of any other flavor. I took one spoonful…and threw the rest away!KUNG PAO CHICKEN – Unfortunately this was just as disappointing! It was like the fast food version of the dish at best! I can’t believe that with no one else in the restaurant but me, they actually used precooked chicken to make the dish! The sauce was sloppy and void of the true flavor, and the vegetables were mushy. This went in the garbage after one bite!SWEET & SOUR CHICKEN – As simple as this dish is to make, I couldn’t believe how nasty it was! The battered chicken was extremely soft & mushy, and yet again the vegetables were very overcooked! Threw the whole thing away!VEGETABLE CHOW MEIN – Well this almost passed for good! The noodles were cooked well however, the vegetables yet again were a huge disappointment! There were large chunks of broccoli, cauliflower, onions, and celery. A very Chinese-Canadian assortment – certainly not true to the julienned Chinese vegetables that should typically be included (carrot, celery, cabbage, green onion). These vegetables that were included were so extremely overcooked that I couldn’t even eat them! Picked out the vegetables. This & the rice were my dinner!RICE – Cooked perfectly! All in all…this was the most disappointing meal I’ve ever had in Winnipeg (next to Marigold’s). For $56, all I really got were 4 nice plastic containers! I don’t know if the cook was just having a bad day (we all do!)….but based on my first impression…I won’t be back! So, SO DISAPPOINTING! If the food tasted as great as the owners were to their customers….This would have been a much more pleasant experience! 0 out of 10

Cozy family style restaurant. As you walk in, you can tell its family run and they put in hard work. The owners don’t speak English fluently so I relied mainly on pictures. We ordered off the chef recommendations area. We ordered the chive dumplings which were delicious. Would definitely come back just for that. We ordered the salt and pepper tofu which was good, spicy soup which was ok and I came here mainly for the handpulled noodles. I ordered the stirfry handpulled noodles with beef. I was quite disappointed to see the chef/server bring me soup and I had to tell him it was incorrect. He made me the stirfry I asked for but feel like he just threw whatever there was together to get the food out back to me. The proportion of the noodles were pretty small for $14. We also ordered the deep fried milk for dessert. Again, I would come back but only for the dumplings and to try other things.
