I find this to be one of the best Indian restaurants in the city. Thankfully there is no buffet and the food is made fresh to order. Everything we have tried over the past year has been amazing; samosas with a perfectly spiced, not mushy potato filling, various chicken curries, Vegetable Korma, naan… each dish with a varied and balanced sauce. The chai is great and lassis are made with homemade yogurt. The staff are friendly and helpful if you are patient with their shyness and lack of perfect English. Overall this has been a great food experience every time we’ve had the pleasure of eating at the Copper Chimney.
Greeted very warmly at the front doors by a young girl sweeping, then our waitress, then the owner came and chatted with us, then the chef came over! Best customer appreciation I’ve experienced in a restaurant. Our food was the highest quality Indian cuisine. Our family’s favourite was the samosas! Many Indian friends recommended it, and I wish we had tried it earlier. Clay Oven, but without the inflated price.
Arrived to find buffet depicted in some pictures on here is no longer offered. They offer a couple lunch platter options displayed on outside signage though they werent on the menu provided and the server wasnt able to clearly explain to me what the options were. Apparently there were three, though all he was able to explain wa that one option was chicken another vegetarian, the other… unclear. Ordered the chicken platter, which turned out to be butter chicken, rice, salad, a bit of sag paneer, a bit of lentil dal, rice dessert, yogurt and nan. All were mediocre and room temperature except the rice dessert, which was inedible. Several times throughout the meal smoke from burned preparations in the open kitchen wafted into the eating area to the point of almost unbearableness. Theres a lot of room for improvement to say the least.
A wonderful Restraunt with delicious food within budget. It wouldn’t be wrong if we call it the best Indian cuisine restaurant of Winnipeg. (Talking about vegetarian food) Nice ambience and compassionate staff. I am a vegetarian and always end my meal with tea. Most places have good food and bad tea because no one cares about 2.5$ tea over 20$ food. But copper chimney is exceptional. Food is great and tea is equally great. Nominal prices. Great varieties of dishes. Much better than other Indian restaurants of Winnipeg. Give it a try and you will see the difference.
The food is very good. They have a variety of tasty dishes. We really like the Veggie Korma, Butter Chicken and Chana Masala. The atmosphere is reasonable. They have updated an old Wendy’s (or some other fast food chain) I think but it looks fairly modern and it’s an ok place to sit down for a meal. The negative is the service. We do really like the food so we keep going back. I really hope they can improve in service though. On several occasions they have given me a time for take-out only to have me arrive and wait an additional 20 minutes waiting for my order. It’s become frustrating because it seems like this is a regular thing for them. Last time we ordered from them I got home only to find one small container of rice accompanying to meals. This was the first time that a mistake has been made with our order but it was an unfortunate one.We want to keep going back for the food but are losing interest with the unknowns in service.
We ordered a $13 dish and a super small portion of a couple vegetables came out. Service was ok until near the end of our stay one of the female servers decided to pull our 2 year old baby away from our table. She proceeded to pick the baby up and have her hands all over the babies face as she was walking to the kitchen. All this without asking or being given any permission to do so. I thought weird I went to get my baby back and she tells me that Im not allowed in the kitchen. She wasn’t even our server, I think this restaurant lacks a lot of common sense and I got a lot of passive aggressive vibes from this place. We were the only ones in there and now I can see why.
A big pass on this place. I brought my son out here for our favourite dish. Samosas and butter chicken. Sat for 30 minutes with only 2 other tables of people in the place and only got menus and water. Tried to wave the server but she was too busy talking with the kitchen staff. So after 30 minutes I told my son we’d wait 5 more. We waited got up and left. We went across the street for some great burgers and good service. I love Samosas but not that much. Won’t ever go there again- and I live 4 blocks away.
