Small diner, nothing fancy. The service is friendly, informative and makes you feel like you’ve been there 100x. The patio would be a cool place to enjoy a lunch, but it was filled with smokers who kept coming in and out to get coffee refills. So the second hand smoke was filling up the restaurant…grossThe restaurant diner needs improvements, a fresh coat of paint would brighten up the place in a big way. The bathroom needs a refresher too & it doesn’t have a change table for babies. However, if none of that bothers you too much (and it didn’t me) then make sure to order the Rueben Sandwich & fries, delish! We added on a Caesar salad (tasty but it had those imitation bacon bits on top, could have done without them) and the onion rings (good, but nothing mind blowing). The bill was $22 before tip
Went with my guy and his two kids. We all enjoyed our meals. Great home style comfort food. We will all definitely go back and recommend to friends and family.
I’m never out this way but ended up there on the 22nd taking my dad for a haircut and then breakfast. I had a usual plate of eggs, sausage, toast and hash browns. I know an old-school breakfast. But they nailed it!! Fresh cut up potatoes lightly grilled up no frozen mceedeez here! Then the eggs asked for them over easy and again cooked right on. Coffee was ok and the service was superb. I’d eat a breakfast there again and maybe try a lunch too. The prices were decent too.
I have lived in or outside of Winnipeg a huge portion of my life and my husband and I decided to try out the Jolly Mug on a Sunday around 1:00 p.m. It was busy but we were able to find a table right away. Due to being so close to the counter, we were greeted right away and had our order taken in no time. We could see many people around us who were waiting for their food so I had an idea that we wouldn’t be getting ours anytime soon, which I was okay with. As we waited, I noticed a woman come up to the counter and said her and her friend have been waiting for half an hour and no one has taken their order. The waitress said she would be with them shortly. It was obvious these women were there before us.We received our food which was presentable and the taste was pretty good but nothing great. The burgers were really messy and it seemed more landed on my plate than in my mouth. Our waitress was kind and attentive as best she could for a busy time. However, the ladies that were waiting to order their food came to the counter half an hour later and stated they had been waiting an hour in total with still no food. They walked out and I felt terrible for them! This NEVER should have happened. There wasn’t even an apology. I felt bad for the cooks as the waitresses kept getting the order wrong or didn’t write it properly so meals kept going back as well. The girl who was bussing the tables was wearing a very inappropriate T-shirt for the work place and couldn’t even put a smile on her face. In fact it looked like she had no idea what she was doing and constantly had to be told what to do. The other waitress kept talking to herself as well which was awkward to witness. Wish I could have given this place a higher rating but don’t think we will be going back just based on how other customers were treated and how the staff, minus our waitress, did not work well together.
The breakfast omelet and hash browns beat The Red Top’s! The coffee is second to none. The service was great. We will definitely be back for breakfast at least!
Disappointed. This USED to be a great breakfast place, with friendly and fast service and reasonable prices. Just went on Sunday, April 7 2013 and was wondering what happened.??!! Ordered 2 eggs, and sausages. It comes with hashbrowns and toast. The sausages where barely cooked. Couldn’t eat them. My friend had the same breakfast and both cost $25.00?? !! WAY too expensive for a simple breakfast. Last time we go here. It used to be really good. Too bad.
When we go to Jolly Mug, we go for breakfast. The few times we’ve tried lunch or supper we were less than impressed, but we try to make it out once a month for their breakfast. Their special is normally a lot of food for a great price.Breakfasts are a busy time, but you normally have to wait about five minutes for a seat if there’s none open. Food comes out fast and is always hot.
