Went for a drive to check out this funky little place in Stony Mountain and it was definitely worth the trip! Love the twists on comfort food. We started off with battered mushrooms, 8 pcs of portobello mushroom sliced and deep fried, was very good, and the Queso cheese sticks, which were tasty as well. Our group had the spicy shrimp grilled cheese, it’s got quite a bit of heat! The pulled pork/mac n cheese sandwich, good but very messy. The Croque Monsieur, a ham and lots of cheese on a French toast like bread (it tasted like breakfast in a sandwich). The Chorizo burger, which was thoroughly enjoyed. The fries were homemade and the gravy was good. The onion strings should be eaten right away as we found they got really greasy as they cooled. The French onion soup, I don’t know if this is just their take on it, did not have the dark broth you’d expect with this soup and the onions were big chunks, and not the strings that melt in your mouth. Overall we’d go back and try some of the other menu items as there was way too many too choose from
My restaurant buddy and I were lured to the Summit Cafe by it’s appearance on You Gotta Eat Here. It’s a nice easy drive north of Winnipeg, with cute decor and friendly staff. My friend had the shrimp grilled cheese which she loved. It looked gooey and filling.I liked their concept of building your own burger. There were multiple choices at each stage, including type of patty, bun, toppings and sauce, so that your burger can be completely unique and custom made. I had the vegetarian burger, but I was disappointed to learn that the patty was not made in house. Unfortunately, it was store-bought ordinary. However, it was great to be able to get sauerkraut, and a medley of corn, black beans and edamame on the side. Their Crispy Mashed potatoes and Onion Strings were especially good.Their starters, desserts, ice-cream and decadent bar beverages looked quite enticing. They will have to wait for another visit.
The BLT and french onion soup… Uhh.. Hands down best meal I have ever had. Wow. Everything about every little bit of it was good. Prices are really good and the service is excellent
Second time for lunch at the Interlake’s best kept secret. Hope it doesn’t catch on too much, especially since it’s such a short drive from Winnipeg! I had the Spicy Shrimp Grilled Cheese, with the French Onion Soup and Sweet Potato Fries. Absolutely delicious all around; such a great mix of flavours in the sandwich with just enough heat to not make me start sweating! FO soup was delicious and well worth the $1.50 extra. SP fries were good but at the same time not worth the surcharge. Service was excellent, bottle of chilled water left at our table was a nice touch. Hungry son had the chicken quesadilla; said it was tasty but couldn’t finish it all. Snack for later! Stony Mountain is lucky to have this great establishment — you won’t leave disappointed, or hungry! Hope to return soon to try a supper entre….
Very yummy, fresh, homemade good priced food. I had the Rueben with mushroom soup (YUM) and salad. Great portions!A friend had the chicken fingers, fries and Caesar salad. They have Date nights as well. Once a month, reservations needed, 3 course meal, dress up, white table cloths and candles. Haven’t tried it yet but will soon!I also want to try their burgers and poutines. They looked delicious.
Great home cooked food using local ingredients and a lot of love! Unique selections on the menu coupled with a unique a creative atmosphere and a penny covered floor makes the summit cafe in stoney mountain an excellent adventure!
Very disappointing… Ordered a quesadilla with sweet potato fries, french onion soup, and a poutine to share with my date. The quesadilla was fantastic. Fresh ingredients, and well made. However, everything else was awful. The sweet potato fries were tasty, yet under cooked. The soup was just awful tasting, and bland. The bread was cement. The fries in the poutine were tasty, yet the gravy was terrible. It had an awful sweet taste. So sweet i could hardly eat it. If cow droppings were covered in gravy id likely eat it. This was just so weird tasting. We also ordered a side of guacamole for our quesadilla. It was runny and bland. I am very disappointed with this meal.
