Disappointed !!!!. I bought a round banana cake for my granddaughter’s 17 th Birthday on saturday My family and I have been buying Jeanne’s cake for at least 40 years—-but when I picked it up at Harris Grocery—never checking it until 5 PM –and noticed it to look like a pancake. I measured it and it barely was 2 inches high—- What happened ???? I don’t think it will be enough for us–plus my granddaughter will be very disappointed.. I called ,but they weren’t taking any more calls for that day. I’ll call the store on Tuesday . I took a picture of this poor and sad cake Martie
Taste. I have been enjoying Jeanne cakes since 1968.My favorite has always been the Banana one.It use to be made with real bananas before and you could actually see the flecks of banana seeds in it .Now It just doesn’t taste the same.Perhaps the recipe has changed. Can they please go back to the old recipe for this !!!
Improvements needed- more taste and moisture. For the last couple of years, Jeanne’s cakes are mostly dry, with less flavour than when the original owners were involved. My family is finding that we’re turning to other cake places for special occasions. It’;s too bad, as this place is a Winnipeg institution…..
Unique Winnipeg Institution. Can’t get enough of Jeanne’s Cake. The icing is perfect, not too sweet and like velvet in your mouth, and a nice contrast to the rich dark chocolate shavings. I always save the crisp cookie bottom for last; simply heavenly! The price has gone up and the round cakes seem smaller but I’d pay any price to enjoy the best cake in Winnipeg.
More than just cakes…. I have been enjoying Jeannes cakes since I was a kid, and I agree that they taste a bit different now.But eating a Jeannes cake still brings back fond memories of days long past, and nobody has ever complained when we pick one up for dessert. We also get the fresh baked apple strudels and apple jacks, which are still warm if we get there early enough in the day. These alone would keep me coming back, they are amazingly delicious!
I don’t get it. So much hype over dry, bland tasting cake. It must be a nostalgic thing as it’s been around so long? I’d rather eat Mccain cake from Safeway.
Disapointed. First time I bought a cake here is dry and tastless.
