We tried this place on a Friday night before the movie. We ordered for thecharcuterie boardand a bottle of wine. It was nice selection of cheeses and we enjoyed it very much. Afterwhich, we ordered a flat bread as we weren’t full yetand it wasn’t as good aswe thought it would be.The dough was soggy and watery. We asked our server if it was fromfrozen and said they made it from scratch..really!? Later we found out it wasn’t cooked properly with the right temperature. She rectified the issue and gave us a free popcorn. Overall, nice place to enjoy quiet dinner before a movie.

Went here on a Sunday afternoon to watch the new star wars flick with my wife. we were planning on having popcorn but thought we have a drink and something small in the lounge. drink prices are fine however where things went downhill was in our food. we decided to share the butter chicken flat bread to start. when it arrived it was about 6 inches in diameter and cut into 4 triangles. I kid you not… each of the quarters had 1.5 pieces of chicken cubes, 1 red pepper and 1 onion slice and a dab of sauce. i asked the waitress right off the bat if this was the normal amount. her response… they all come prepackaged in a plastic bag that gets microwaved and put on…i should have known better for a movie theater. next bad part…i guess they forgot to set the microwave correctly as the chicken pieces were all ice cold.i will admit she took it back and offered to get us a new one but by this point we were turned off. so she offered us free popcorn which in my mind made up for it. so 8 points for service 1 point for food.go for the popcorn and movie… it is a theater!
Got to the VIP theatre early for the 915pm show – about 45 min early (add 20 min for previews and we’re way good). We were told by a wait staff that the theatre was clearing any minute and to have a seat at the Lounge. We were there early to eat so we sat at a table. About 10 minutes went by before a waitress came by and asked if anyone had helped us. She didn’t give us menus. A few minutes after that another waitress apologised and brought menus. That was the extent of the poor service – after that it was fine. She even offered to have a pre-ordered bag of popcorn be brought to our theatre seats at the start of the show. My food was great: I had a burger and poutine for $13 – both were good and poutine had REAL CHEESE CURDS! – that alone exceeded my expectations for theatre food. We also had chicken strips and salad – not impressed with the chicken – pressed flat strips with hot sauce. I’m told salad with balsamic vinaigrette was good. The way I look at it $4 for pop vs. $7 for imported beer; I’ll take the beer. $7 for popcorn vs. $13 burger and fries; again it’s a no brainer.
Nice Atmosphere, Terrible Service. My friend and I went to see a movie this weekend at the VIP Cineplex. We arrived an hour early to go to the lounge, have a drink and a bite to eat. I asked about a wine they have on their menu, and the waitress knew nothing about it. She went to ask the other bar staff, and they knew nothing about the wine either. Now, at a normal restaurant/lounge, they would offer a sip of the wine however the staff is (what I’m assuming) very inexperienced. My friend and I ordered our drinks (I ended up not getting the wine and ordered something different). It took at least 25 minutes to receive our drinks, during which time the waitress came over to apologise 3 times. The best way to make it up? Offer something extremely cheap, like a complimentary bag of popcorn, which is literally pennies to the theatre, as an apology. Again, I chalk this up to inexperienced staff. When it was time to go into the theatre, I was pleasantly surprised by the seats. The photo/diagram of the theatre seating is a bit misleading on the website – there are no aisles between the pairs of seats, so be prepared for that (I spoke to another patron beside me, and we had both assumed there would be aisles between the seats). We ordered food and drinks. The food was good. You can’t go wrong with melted cheese or deep fried pickles. I ordered a ceasar as my second drink. I would advise anyone who is a fan against the ceasar. It was bland, flavourless, and had no spice. Since I was served the drink during the movie, there was no-one I could ask to fix the drink, unless I left the theatre (which was an option, but one I didn’t take). My experience? I like the idea. I don’t understand why more theatres don’t offer reserved seating (it’s common place in other countries). The service needs a large overhaul. Was it worth the $17.50? I’d say it was, just to attend a theatre that was 18 and over, to be able to reserve a seat so I don’t waste an hour waiting in line so I can sit at a decent seat with my friend, and it was nice to be able to enjoy a cocktail during a movie again. The prices for food and drink were comparable to those in a restaurant, and I really didn’t have a complaint about the pricing. Of course, the popcorn and pop-drinks were steep as they always are, but paying $7.00 for a cocktail in a restaurant is fairly normal, and $7ish dollars for appetizers are not unreasonable. I was actually quite surprised at the reasonableness of the pricing.
Bad service at a steep price. We arrived an hour early for our show so we could take advantage of the whole experience offered in the new VIP Cinema. The bar offered typical bar stool seating and was attractively designed with bright blue backlighting. There were numerous soft armchairs in the lounge, laid out in groups of 4 or more. One section of seating had a gas fireplace along the wall. There was a large TV in another section and a few more above the bar.A few waiting staff took orders from patrons. A full menu of drinks (alcoholic, non-alcoholic and coffee specialties), appetizers, entrees, and desserts was available. Drinks ordered in the lobby can be taken into the theatre but food cannot. To have food during the movie, it must be ordered from your seat in the theatre. We ordered drinks and perused the menu to determine our food choices. The waitress returned some time later, still without drinks and took our appetizer order. We ordered nachos with chicken and guacamole ($12.50), which came fairly quickly but our drinks were served after wed nearly finished eating (about 25 minutes wait). The nachos were nothing to write home about. I found the chicken luke warm and bland with no seasoning. The guacamole was pretty good, however. After paying our bill in the lounge, we took our seats in the theatre (about 20 minutes before movie start time). The seats, high backed and upholstered in leather, were wider than normal with more leg room for improved comfort. There was also the option of a shared drink holder in an arm rest between adjoining seats which could be lifted out of the way for more intimacy. We found a menu at each seat and discovered that many of the food options were no longer available. These included the flatbreads and several of the appetizers. Entrees were limited to an Angus Burger, crispy chicken wrap and chicken fingers. They come with fries but can be substituted for a Caesar salad for an additional $1.50 or sweet potato fries for $2.00, which are served with a chili mayo dip.We tried on numerous occasions to get the attention of one of the attendants to place our order, but they continued to take orders from patrons who just walked in. This was very frustrating. It seemed we were going to miss our opportunity to place a food order, which could only be made up to the start of the movie. While it was convenient to have our order taken and delivered at our seats, they really need to improve the way in which they take orders. My soft drink was delivered within minutes of ordering and food took about 10 minutes but again, my husbands beer took more than 15 minutes to be served. The burger was pretty good but had sweet pickles. The fries were very tasty.Overall, the experience did not meet our expectations. Service was very poor and, as one might expect in a theatre, the prices were pretty steep. As were already paying a premium to have the service available (seats are $17.50 vs. $10.50), they really need to improve this or I dont see it surviving.
