I used to absolutely love Cookies By George in Winnipeg Square. I would stop in often after work to grab 4 or 6 cookies for my partner and I on my home… last week however, I brought our cookies home, took a bite out of the Cappuccino one, and to my horror, a FOOT LONG HUMAN HAIR ended up in my mouth, and was baked right into the cookie… do the people who work there not wear hair nets when they’re baking!?!? I was absolutely disgusted, and threw my 2 cappuccino cookies out. I still feel totally grossed out just thinking about pulling that long hair out of my mouth…. *BARF*
A colleague suggested we grab a little pick me up at Cookies by George since it was a very long day. I’ve never had cookies from this shop before, so I didn’t think too much of it while I waited for my colleague to make her purchase. She bought me a little treat and since then, I have been hooked!! I’ve tried the shortbread pecan/chocolate, cappuccino chocolate chunk, oatmeal, and a few others, but these three, hands down, are my ultimate faves!!! I returned back for more cookies at the end of the day and devoured 4 or 5 when I got back to the hotel. I am back in Winnipeg, and dreaming about these moist little treasures. Sadly, there is only 1 location in Winnipeg and close at 5 pm during the week. They’re a little pricey, but sooooooo worth it!
Pretty Darn Good. I believe this kiosk in the Shops of Winnipeg Square is the only location remaining in Winnipeg. They feature about six types of cookies as well as other baked goods such as Nanaimo Bars. You can see large ovens in the back so I believe that the cookie dough is baked onsite. The cookies are a bit pricey. They are by no means huge and cost well over a buck a piece (close to $2 for one, but get discounts if buying 3 or 6). I have tried a ginger snap cookie, double chocolate (chocolate cookie with pieces of chocolate in it) as well as the classic chocolate chunk (their version of a chocolate chip cookie). The roster of cookies seems to vary each day. The chocolate chunk and double chocolate cookie seem to be mainstays. The cookies have always tasted fresh and were moist. I had gone years since I had last tried them and I recalled them tasting better back in the day. My recollection was that they were stellar and amongst the best I have ever had. They are no longer at that level, but they are still very good. I don’t think the flavour will disappoint you. The chocolate chunks were not as flavourful as I remembered them. They did contain a fair amount of chocolate. The cookies are a worthwhile treat when you are in the area and I wouldn’t hesitate paying another visit.
Yum!. Delicious cookies and decent prices. I wish the location were more accessible but otherwise, great!
