Having lived in a lot of cities and travelled a lot for work, I have tried a plethora of restaurants. This place is, without question, my most favourite breakfast spot. Corned beef and hash with a side order of potato pancakes shared with my wife is happiness.
First of all the tabouli was half raw. I let that side, shit happens. That being said wen I pulled out my order of take out soup I was shocked. If you pay $5.75 for soup you expect more than 2/3 cups of soup. You go in the restaurant and get 3 times the amount. Never ordering from Amis restaurant again.
We came for breakfast on our last day of work. We were with a group of 6, but the restaurant was not very busy and it took forever for the food to come out. I had the ham and cheese sandwich on toasted multigrain and added lettuce, tomato, mayo and mustard. Even with adding the sauces and veggies the sandwich was dry and flavourless. I also had a cup of beet borscht and it was one of the worst soups i have ever had. Full of shredded beets and nothing else, also flavourless. No one else in our group seemed overly impressed with their meals either and two people were sick after the food! One right after and one that evening! The restaurant is also cash only and doesn’t inform you of that until it’s time to pay as if it should be obvious in 2017.I was very disappointed in the experience. It’s a cute, family owned restaurant in a good area and our server was excellent. It has a very large menu but after our experience with the food I doubt I’ll bother coming back.
Been here twice now and have to say the falafels are the best in the city. Love the all day breakfast options and look forward to trying new menu items. Potato pancakes are great and the free option to have grilled banana peppers, onions, and garlic is amazing. STAFF IS AMAZING. Love the family atmosphere and how everyone that walks in seems to be a regular. Interesting local artist work on display as well. Prices are average. Falafel breakfast: two eggs, 8 falafel balls, potato pancake and toast $13.00. Looking forward to returning.
Great food, even better portions. However service is pretty bad, and prices can be outrageous, 40 bucks for two people to get breakfast is a little insane.
This was my favourite greasy spoon, until I went for dinner one day and saw a table of four people all cutting yams and tomatoes. Only one of them appeared to work there, as he would get up frequently to go to the kitchen (At one point shaking the hand of some stranger in the kitchen who did not appear to work there). The rest did not look like employees, yet all were touching the food and taking turns at cutting in between checking their phones. The person who did work there touched the bottom of his chair, and his face, multiple times. Never saw anyone wash their hands. The stranger who was wearing street clothes was in the kitchen making an omelette, touching the cheese and the omelette with his hands. It could have been his, I don’t know, but I don’t know what he was doing there in the first place.
We went to this restaurant at around 7:30 on a Tuesday evening, craving falafel. The atmosphere was a bit lacking but the food did not disappoint. Their infamous hot sauce is incredibly tasty & makes my mouth water just thinking about it & their onion rings are also top notch. The flavour of the Middle Eastern falafel (in a pita) was also delicious, the way they plated the pita was nearly impossible to eat it was not a pretty sight! Overall, it was a good experience fast, tasty & messy & I left overly stuffed. I’d definitely recommend, I just wouldn’t go there on a first date 😉
