Went there for lunch today and we loved it! Ate great food, looked out to the outdoor art garden, had excellent service; just a fabulous atmosphere. The food was so fresh so tasty. Salad was excellent; dressing coated the greens and provided even flavour. And the French fries were perfect you could taste the crunch so I knew they were properly deep fried at two different temperatures to give that them that texture. Service was excellent and we were able to get back to the office with time to spare. Best lunch I have had downtown time winnipeg in a long time.

Far from it’s potential!. This restaurant could be run so much better than it is. Entrance and seating signage was non-existent, wait staff had too many tables each to attend to guests, and service was very very slow. Long wait times to receive menus, order, receive food, and pay, topped by no cutlery on the table (further delay) and empty drinks. It’s a beautiful little spot and paired with the galleries could be such a great experience, but is unfortunately far from it. The food was mediocre by the time it got to us. Overall it was a confusing and disappointing experience.

A waste of my appetite and my money!. I had considered many options for spoiling my mother for Mother’s Day Brunch. In the end I decided on this venue (even cancelling my reso for the legendary Fort Garry Hotel brunch) as we had planned to visit the Norman Rockwell exhibit post-brunch. I brought my appetite prepared to pig out, even going for an early morning run. If it wasn’t for the view from our window seats (and the company of course!) our experience would have been a total flop. First off we had to wait far too long for coffee to begin with and when I asked for a teaspoon to stir my coffee was told they were in the cutlery wraps by the buffet. No offer to get me one. I felt we were rushed by staff immediately to eat. And the disappointment only grew from there. As I told my mother later, I felt like I had to force myself to put things on my plate and later into my belly rather than as typical at a buffet try to resist completely gorging myself. The spread started with assorted baked goods, and I may be mistaken but they looked suspiciously like Tall Grass Prairie baked goods. I would recognize those chocolate croissants anywhere! Then there were assorted cheeses (which were the best part of the whole spread and obviously all they had to do was cut it up), fruit, 3 lackluster salads and then the hot dishes. This included: french toast (which was cold), potatoes, perogies, an egg dish which looked like a big tray of mush, latkes with smoke salmon (which I was most excited about and turned about to be soggy and bland), fried chicken, sausage, bacon and I think a roast at the end. We ate but not with enthusiasm leaving much on our plates and I hate to waste. We continually had to wait for refills of coffee and at one point my father asked for a fresh cup as his coffee had gotten cold and the server looked at him like he was an alien. I used to be a server and that is not such an odd request. We went back for a round of dessert and among us tried a chocolate mouse, blueberry and cherry cheesecakes. Passable but only. We tried to make the best of our experience but it was a big letdown. Luckily the Norman Rockwell exhibit was excellent and saved the day for my mom and I!!! BTW this is the first negative review I have ever been compelled to write…

Lovely Lunch Spot: Excellent Food, Ambiance, and a Great Price. Visited with a friend the other day, and was not at all disappointed with the quality of the food, or the price at this lovely lunch spot. Although the menu is not huge, the hardest thing was deciding what to order: we ended up sharing the Wild Boar Dumplings with Sweet Chili Cream as a starter, and the sauce was incredible! My friend had the Croque Normande, and she claims it is the best sandwich she’s ever eaten. I was similarly impressed with my selection, the Pizza Romana: while not for everyone, I really appreciated the intensity of the anchovies and oregano set against the simplicity of the crispy thin crust. I would have this again, except of course that I want to try everything else as well…..Regretfully, we were too full for dessert, another mistake we shall not make when we return! We just stuck to coffee, which was served in a French Press at our table. The restaurant was quite busy when we were there, just before Christmas, so I would definitely recommend a reservation. Only open for lunch, but a great idea if you’re downtown and looking for a nice treat.
