  The food is alright. The service is horrible. I have been to the tallest poppy twice, once with my mother and another time with a friend. The first time the waitress literally spilt milk on my mom (that was meant for her tea) and although she apologized and gave us napkins she did not seem overly concerned about the situation and just retreated afterward, barely visiting our table to check in. Despite this I thought I would give the tallest poppy another try recently when a friend and I were in the area. I ordered a fried chicken sandwich which was alright, and she ordered a veggie burger, which she seemed to like. When I received my sandwich the top pieces of bread had been knocked over and it looked like a mess. The waitress explained that she had tipped it and the bread had fallen off the sandwich but that it was fine. This isnt so bad in itself, but she also took way too long to take our order, bring our food and finally let us pay for it. We never had our water filled and she didnt seem to be in the dining area for most of the time when we were there. It seems odd that the service would be so bad on two separate occasions with two different waitresses. I will not be returning.

  Ive been to The Tallest Poppy a few times as the food is always delicious. They use unique and fresh ingredients. The back of house (kitchen) staff are clearly professionals as the food always comes out quickly without sacrificing taste or quality. Unfortunately I will never go back as the service (front of house) is terrible. When we were seated it took ten minutes for someone to come over and take our order. When I got my coffee I wasnt given a spoon and couldnt ask for one because no server (and there were four of them) came back to, or near our table until our food came out. The restaurant was less than half full at this point at 3 pm. When we got our order items were missing. Again, couldnt tell anyone because no one came to check how the food was. When the server brought us our food she said shed come back and refill my coffee. That didnt happen either. Not a single coffee run was done while I was there. When we were done eating we sat there for a long time just waiting for someone to come by so we could get a takeout box. Finally I flagged someone down who brought a box and I asked for a small container for the delicious syrup that came with our waffles. I had to wait another ten minutes just to get that. It never came and neither did our bill so I just gave up went to the front to pay. Little tip dont make your customers have to work so hard to pay and turn tables in your restaurant. The servers are either inexperienced or simply dont care. Its too bad because I love the food but the service was so terrible I just cant waste my time going there again. Theres tonnes of great food spots in Winnipeg where the service is just as good as the food. I have to give this place a 2 instead of a 0 because the people in the kitchen know what theyre doing. The kitchen staff deserve better than what the front of house is bringing to the table at The Tallest Poppy.
