I like coming here for a quick bite for lunch. Usually get the deluxe vermicelli for $7.95. Can’t go wrong for the price and you get a good size portion.
This place is located in the Winnipeg Square food court. There aren’t many Vietnamese restaurants within walking distance of the downtown core and this place definitely fills a gap. Their menu is small, they offer one type of pho(beef noodle soup), one type of vermicelli, and a handful of lunch combos. Nearly all items areunder $10 with a drink and tax. Not to mention everything here is lightning quick. They have the system worked out such that all the noodles along with condiments are essentially boxed and ready to go, they simply garnish with meat and add soup if necessary.Honestly, the food is mediocre at best. Vinh Long however is fast and very reasonably priced. You have to give them credit for that, and for me, not having to walk outside on a super cold winter day gives them bonus points!
For fast food/food court Vietnamese food, i thought it would be at least all right…. Its HORRIBLE!! I’ve tried it once before, thought I’d give it a second shot today. Boy, do i regret it. Both the fried rice and noodles were hard, just like the first time. I even asked the lady working if the rice and noodles were hard, as i had it like that before, and she told me no!… BBQ chicken also made me sick. If you’re gonna eat here, have toothpicks prepared on you! Lol. NEVER. AGAIN.
Salad rolls were ok, but not as fresh as could be. I couldn’t resist a quick order of salad rolls as I walked past today. They were ok. Nothing special. They were pre-made, so I have no idea how long they were sitting out. The lettuce inside wasn’t quite crisp, the shrimp weren’t as fresh as they could have been, and there was no basil to be found inside the roll. A bit disappointing, but not too bad for a food court Viet place.
Good food from a food court. I don’t eat a lot of Vietnamese to comment how authentic it is, however the food is tasty and seems of good fresh ingredients. Portions for the price you pay seems like a great value for downtown (special combo #3 includes a drink and a good sized portion for under $10). One of my go to places as a downtown worker.
Not Your Average Food Court Food. Vinh Long is a hidden little treasure bringing life to a typically boring and chain filled food court. And I do mean hidden. If you walk past the Winnipeg Square food court looking in, you’ll miss it, as they are hidden on the back of the inner wall, the only restaurant not visible to passer-by’s.I was drawn to this hole in the wall by the constant customer base they seemed to have. There is always a line, and that usually means amazing food. The kitchen is staffed by Vietnamese Grandma / Mothers, so you know you are in for some authentic Vietnamese cuisine.I have tried most dishes here and have not come across a dish I do not like. My favorites are the Vermicelli bowl, Pho, and basically anything with their grilled beef in it. Make sure to ask for a hot sauce. Their (I believe!) homemade red-chilli based hot sauce is amazingly good. It’s got a good kick, lots of taste, but isn’t over the top, burn-your-mouth-off type hot. Hot Sauce + Grilled Beef = heaven.Give it a try! Amazing food.
