Yes ribs are good but onion rings were way too salty and coleslaw was most powerful I’ve ever tasted. Menu choices are very limited. Just takeout…no tables.
I’m not really able to say anything that hasn’t already been said. Being a lifetime Winnipegger and having grown up in River Heights when the restaurant was on Grant you would think I would have tried in the past, but whenever I looked at it I thought it was too expensive. But we took the plunge tonight and spent way too much money on dinner to get really subpar food. As others have said the ribs were rubbery and not at all fall-off-the bone. My wife said we would have been better off getting the ribs at the Safeway deli for half the price. The fries were OK, but also a bit tough. Coleslaw was bland; admittedly I prefer a creamy slaw, but even so this one lacked flavour. The one standout was the gravy, it was peppery and delicious. But for $4 we got about a cup of gravy which brings me to my next point. There is no seating just a pickup counter, and they have a menu of about 8 items. They are open for 5 hours a day from 4 to 9. Why so expensive? Surely a specialty restaurant with no seating (low rent), limited menu choices (limited storage/cooking equipment), and short hours (low wage cost) could offer a product that is reasonably priced. On top of that, if all they have to do was drop fries and sauce ribs they should be able to pump out food very quickly, and with a 5 hour window to make cash you would think that they would have built a super efficient production line. Not knowing better I went in and ordered and expected to wait about 15 mins, but I waited half an hour for my takeout. Not terribly unreasonable, but still… I heard them telling people they would wait an hour and a half for delivery.Obviously they have been around for a long time, so I have a hard time believing that all of this negative feedback isn’t new. Did they change ownership? All I know is that for now I would advise staying away, there are many other far better options in Winnipeg for ribs.Happy Dining!
