YUM!. I love having a Korean restaurant in St. John’s! The Korean bbq was very good and authentic. They even have metal chop sticks which are the kind of chop sticks I got used to using when I lived in Korea for a year 🙂 Oh and Bi Bim Bop…excellent!
Horrible Experience. Firstly, when my husband and I arrived at the restaurant, the chef/owner was sitting to a table with what appeared to be her husband and son as her waitress and kitchen help were clearly swamped with orders. Secondly, our waitress who was very helpful and kind, had been scolded in the kitchen for giving us new napkins when my husband had dropped his and mine was torn in half for us to share. Thirdly, as we proceeded to the bar to pay for our meal, my husband and I were both shocked and disgusted to see the chef pick food off of plates and eat it before the waitress brought them to the dining room. And most importantly, the food was mediocre. I had the hot bulgogi and my husband he the bibimbap. It was all rather bland. I have had better Koren food in a mll food court in Toronto. Was not impressed and will not return nor recommend. Plus it ws terribly cold and the owner refused to turn on the heat.
Friendly people. The owners and staff are very kind. I wish they had more of a sushi selection that wasnt so expensive! They should do half price sushi rolls or something
Nice Try but Not Truly Authentic. I was so excited to learn that St. John’s had a Koren restaurant as it’s one of my favorite cuisines. The decor is nice and the waitress we had was very attentive, friendly and helpful. The food was average and really not as authentic as it can or should be. It tasted more like something your kids can make for you. The lettuce leaves they gave us were tiny which sort of defeats the purpose as they’re supposed to be large pieces of Romaine in which to stuff and roll the food. That was mistake number one. The Kimchi wasn’t authentic at all except for some of the flavors but they had two potato dishes which isn’t the norm with Korean food. It should have been things like vegetables. The beef was a bit tough and difficult to eat and the seasoning was just okay but not authentic. The rice was fine but overall everything was really expensive and kind of disappointing. I hated the silver chopsticks as I found them difficult to eat with and yes, I can eat with chopsticks — wooden chopsticks not extra large silver ones that are hard to hold.I wanted to like J Korean more than I did. For the price and lack of authenticity, I probably won’t return.
First visit. Ordered soft shell crab, squid and veggies in spicy sauce. Nothing special. Thought seafood might be exceptional in St Johns but not apparent here. Potato salad and asparagus in entree was odd for this cuisine to me. Ambience is nice but service was not that attentive. Not my choice nor likely to return. 40%
Very tasty. Good kimchi. Good service. I will go back.
