Terrible experience here. Asked for no peanuts, 2 waitresses guaranteed there were no peanuts. Dishes come, and I get an allergic reaction from peanuts. Took a bit of prying but the waitress eventually told us the food could be contaminated and there were no guarantees. Would be very careful if you have allergies. Food wasn’t very good either, typical Americanized Chinese food. vanfoodexploration.blogspot.com

Other rating sites call this authentic Asian food. It’s authentic alright – absolutely standard North American Chinese Food fare. Standard goop for the sweet and sour chicken balls. Standard plum sauce packs for the eggrolls. Prices for lunch are reasonable, but you won’t likely be excited about too much. Perhaps some of the more adventurous choices on the menu are prepared with more pizzazz, but that’s not what I went for this time, and there wasn’t much on the menu you wouldn’t get on every other Chinese take-out menu in the country. The egg drop soup was a strange concoction of egg drop and locally sourced vegetables. It wasn’t bad, but it was different enough that I’ve never seen one like it before. The egg rolls were a bit light on the filling. Not a terrible place for maintenance food/cheap lunch, but if this is the best St. John’s has to offer, that would be sad.

A little different than what I am used to. I lived in Edmonton and Toronto so there’s a large population of Chinese restaurants in those areas. I can say that this restaurant is way over priced for the food quality and quantity. The food itself is average and pricey. Had to request bowl and chopsticks at a Chinese restaurant too! Where’s the authenticity?

Chinese Take Out. Our first try at Chinese take out in St. John’s. We had the dinner for two and the chicken chow mein… well, we ordered chow mein but received chop suey instead, so they mixed up our order. But overall, we were satisfied and liked the fact that the take out wasn’t overly greasy and didn’t have MSG.

Old Faithful. Best Chinese food in the city! Large menu selection. Excellent staff.
