We were looking for a simple yet delectable breakfast location and were pretty satisfied with the rocket. Fresh breads and scones coupled with fresh coffee made for an enjoyable way to start the day. It is virtually self serve and the simple seating area is bordered by large windows overlooking the street and guaranteeing maximum morning light.. It didn’t hurt that the rocket appeared on You Gotta Eat Here. Prices might be a bit high if you visited daily and ordered sandwiches but we’re not an issue with we tourists. Maybe a bit more than Tim Hortons but less than Starbucks.

I have a love-hate relationship with Rocket based on several experiences with the popular cafe and bakery. What I love about it is the location, the baked goods and that they serve Calgary’s Phil and Sebastian coffee. Unfortunately sometimes I feel the cons outweigh the pros. The cons being it often smells strongly of vehicle exhaust inside the bakery, which I have mentioned to staff but they tell me they can’t smell it (good sign…). I also find Rocket quite expensive; a basic turkey sandwich on regular old bread costs $9 and I can’t emphasize the word basic enough as I’ve created much better sandwiches at home. Thirdly staff often seem unorganized while working. There are two registers and counters, one for coffee and mains and the other for baked goods. Sometimes these are staffed and sometimes they are not. It also makes you feel like you have to wait in two lines to get a coffee and a croissant, which is of course inconvenient. Finally the baked goods can often be fantastic but I have found the quality to be variable. Regardless of my complaints Rocket is a extremely popular bakery in the core of St. John’s, which I, even with my reservations still find myself in often. Give it a try and decide for yourself.

Only went here because it was on You Gotta Eat Here and expected very great things. Although it was not up to par with my expectations, it was still pretty good food. The cod cake was probably my favourite. They also have really good coffee!

My go to place for pastries and great coffee! The atmosphere makes it even better! It’s fresh, open, and a great place to relax or get some work done! The macarons they serve on Wednesday’s are to die for, and their traditional Newfoundland foods are spot on!

Macchiato. Best coffee in St John’s ~ Tim’s it is not, thank God!

Rocket St. John’s. Over all I liked the place, I had the sandwich of the day paired with a chicken curry soup. The sandwich was okay, would not have it again but the soup was very good. Very full in flavour and a good size bowl. The main downfall of this place was the price. For a sandwich, bowl of soup and a drink the total came to $21.00. If you can get past the price it was a good place.

What a disappointment:( Noisy babies and kids. You order cafeteria style in a line, you choose and then they microwave your selection (sausage roll and pulled pork turnover), you pay and then they want a tip????? You seat yourself with your tray, get your own cutlery and napkins, get your own water which oops! they forgot to put out, then you clean up your dishes. Pulled pork….ok. Sausage roll…very spicy. Server should say so the customer can make a different selection if they don’t like spice. My husband would have enjoyed it but my mouth burned after 2 glasses of water. Should have returned it to the counter.Decor????
