Nice Addition to St. John’s. Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt is a big hit in the states so I was glad to see the chain made its way to Newfoundland. They have a variety of flavors like carrot cake, peanut butter cup, and wedding cake and they have healthier options including non-fat yogurt and tasty sorbet. The lines are very long since it’s new and people aren’t quite sure what to do (i.e. you get a mini cup and try out the flavors then get your bigger cup and fill it yourself with whichever flavors and toppings you want). It’s a bit chaotic and the staff doesn’t help things go more smoothly but the frozen yogurt and sorbet are yummy. The toppings bar includes a variety of sprinkles, Oreo cookies, peanut butter chips, carob chip, etc as well as chopped fruit and sauces. You then stand in the line and wait for your cup to be weighed since it goes by weight. Be sure to give them your phone number so you can be part of their frequent customer program and receive free yogurt in the future. They have awesome flavored lip balm as well. I’m glad they’re doing well but I worry about Menchie’s in the winter in Newfoundland, although frozen yogurt is delicious anytime of year. Hopefully they’ll work out the kinks (i.e. you can’t use your chip card right now, you can only slide it which isn’t as safe) and get the staff more educated and brave to wrangle the customers by the fall.

Fun Frozen Yogurt Experience!. What an exciting treat – create-your-own frozen yogurt dessert! My fiance and I felt like kids as we tried different flavours, decided on a mixture, and then added fruit and candy to it. I recommend this place to anyone with children… or maybe you will want to rethink that. Once they’ve tried it they’ll probably bug for it again and again 😉

Like the sorbet (when it is available). I like Menchies’ sorbet. As for this location, I realize it has been opened for a week only and is going through growing pains. Still, I was there on two different occasions and was disappointed at the following: broken scale on day 3 causing a long line up, no sorbet on day 8 and having to leave empty handed, dirty toppings station and sticky floors near the topping station and staff who could not be bothered to clean up. Hope that the owner / management will fix these problems. That being said, the newest food trend in St. John’s seems to be a hit.
