Most amazing turkey sandwich and squash soup ever. The portions of soup are a little small and the salad selections are limited, but this is more than made up for with the taste and quality.

Sloppy Beef Sandwich. With brimming excitement, I had the chance to make it to The Canteen for lunch, on a weekday no less…. First time in four years I have ever been able to take my girlfriend to lunch during work. Unfortunately, it was also the first time, in as long as I can remember, that after a few first bites of my beef sandwich, with fresh salsa, avocado, and rare beef strips on thinly sliced sourdough bread, that I refused to eat any more…I’ve have certainly been disappointed with my order at a restaurant before, but usually am able to choke it down, and swallow my pride. Not this time. The beef was cut in long, or large strips, so after one bite, the entire sandwich came apart. The beef being rare, made it practically impossible to chew through. The thin bread was soaked by the time our food was served. And it cost $10, for the sandwich alone. Try serving half of the meat, cut in finer chunks, and sell it for a reasonable $6-$7!All in all, great idea for a sandwich, but the execution was completely wrong, and not appealing in the least!Unfortunately, this experience will leave a stain on lunch dates of the future. Certainly won’t be wasting my coveted lunch break at the Canteen again.

Great spot, just a bit steep $. Had the meatloaf sandwich which was absolutely delicious. Very moist and full of flavour, bread was incredibly fresh as well. The place has the same funky-but-somewhat-austere feel that TIBS has (because they share the same space, essentially), but it’s comfortable, clean and bright. Service is a a bit pretentious, but again…goes with the territory. After tax is came to $10.65 or something…which is annoying when you pay cash (pet peeve, all these broken bills), but also just a bit steep for what is not going to keep you full for very long. I wouldn’t make a habit of eating there for that price, but once in a while it is a nice treat and very novel.

No Food. No food, no website, ignored when we entered. Wrong hours of business posted. I wouldn’t bother trying to come here again…just meant for friends in the neighborhood? What are you going to do when tourists descend?
