  I had heard good things but it was a letdown. When me and my girlfriend arrived we asked for a spot on the patio, but were put on a waitlist. Not a problem, but after 20 minutes waiting they put us outside and there were 5 open spots for a twosome. At this point still not a problem I could assume it was a fluke and multiple tables left at once.It started to get a bit chilly outside so we moved inside after we had our drinks. After moving inside our appetizers were brought to us fairly quickly. The vegan raw taco was good, as were the vegan nachos. At this point still perfectly happy. At some point our order must have been lost in translation because we then waited about 40 minutes until our main course got to the table. And once it did it was wrong, frustrating.My vegan girlfriend ordered the lentil burger with roasties and I ordered the bacon cheeseburger with half roasties and half house salad. To keep the lentil burger vegan you have to change the sauce because the one on the menu is honey mustard. After specifying this they brought out honey mustard still, and also gave her half house salad (which has feta cheese) and half roasties. We told them about the mistake and the waitress brought the dish to the back and clearly removed the salad and didn’t add any roasties… At this point I am annoyed. My burger was OK, the salad and roasties were pretty good.My girlfriend had to resort to putting ketchup on her lentil burger, I felt bad. It was our one year anniversary dinner. The Wooden Monkey let us down.I’m sure this is an outlier in terms of their service but it was a bad first impression.

  Customer Satisfaction NOT on the menu!. Well Wooden Monkey, less than $4.00 just lost me as a customer.It used to be that I liked to go to the Monkey as a treat because I knew that I was guaranteed to get a gluten free meal. As options opened elsewhere, I have gone less because my wife is not as fond of the menu as I am and it is tough to pay nearly $30 for entree’s that she does not like.I talked her into going again today for just a quick bite on the way home and I was reminded that the Monkey is not a quick bite spot. No big deal on this point, because we never mentioned anything to our server about being in a rush.My issue comes in the fact that I ordered a beverage which when described by the server, sounded like something I would like. When I got it, I took a sip and it was not to my liking. I took a few more small sips and just could not drink it. I mentioned to the server that I did not like it and asked if he could take it away. He asked if I wanted something else and I was OK with the water I had. This is a big deal to me, because I never, ever send anything back.When we got our bill, the drink was still on it. When did restaurants start charging for items guests did not like and had almost none of? That is a huge issue for me and makes me glad that I never asked for anything else. We really needed to get going, so I never mentioned it because it took us awhile to get our server’s attention in the first place.I hate to sound petty, but that $4.00 will be the end of my fling with the Wooden Monkey and will be the end of my recommendations to Celiacs and local/organic food lovers alike.Poor form guys….poor form.

  Double Yum. The Dartmouth location of the Wooden Monkey is just as delicious as the Halifax one. The service was extremely impressive, I think our waiter may have been the nicest waiter I have ever had. The food is prompt, hot and just plain delicious. I love the location as well. The atmosphere it comfortable and very stylish. You even get to look out over the harbour and see the ferry go back and forth.
