I have only been here for their Sunday brunch. I’ve been here 3 times and each time is amazing. Their selection and happy staff are amazing. Can’t wait to come again and enjoy it with more friends and family 🙂
They Must Have Long Lunches in HalifaxThe desk clerk in the hotel said they did lunches in this restaurant. If so, Halifax must follow the continental tradition because no one with a regular North American job could ever eat lunch here.I had an hour (what passes for a normal lunchbreak where I come from) and I ordered a bowl of chowder. Seemed doable to me. I imagined it would be a matter of just heating up a bowl, didn’t expect them to make it from scratch or anything. But for some reason, it took 45 minutes, and when it did come it was scalding hot (would’ve taken 10 minutes to get to anything approaching eating temperature) and the minuscule quantity of seafood included in it had that unmistakable rubbery texture that results from being left much too long in a microwave oven. The soup is also weirdly served in a container the size of a washbasin, but with a miniature soupspoon. And incredibly overpriced: $17 for this cup of watery, too hot soup and a cup of coffee.
I go at least 3 times a year if not more…, and every time it’s a culinary master piece…. The flavors the service and the atmosphere are always top notch! Gio is my favourite place to eat in Halifax for fine dining…. Bar none
WE WENT SOMEWHERE FOR PIZZA AFTER!. The Service is the only thing I can say we enjoyed about this place. We had the salmon, which had zero flavour, i dont think they used anything to season it, and was over cooked – couldnt even force myself to finish it. and the duck, which was also lacking the flavour department. The side dishes were very bad, a fingerling potatoe cut in half and dry… with 2 pieces of asparagus – the only thing we enjoyed eating- the size of a pen cap…. will not be going here again
Amazing. Gio is one of my favourite fine dinner places in Halifax. The staff there is always willing to make your experience that much more special, knowledgeable with any menu or beverage questions you might have, and the service is impeccable…. as for the food, sheer artwork on a plate, as well as delicious from the amuse to dessert. Love it!
Absolutely amazing! It was raining. So I decided to keep it simple and eat at the hotel, that is at Gio. I’m so glad it was raining. 🙂 The amuse-bouche was a turnip pure. I don’t like turnip and this was wonderful. The lobster bisque was to die for. I had to eat it in small spoonfuls to make the pleasure last. The scallops were beautifully prepared and the accompanying fois gras ravioli was unbelievable. The service was exquisite. Nadine is more than a server; she is an advisor and a guide. You have to go to Gio when you go to Halifax! It is a must!
After walking around downtown Halifax late on a Tuesady evening finding nothing worthwhile open I ended up back at the hotel hoping to at least get something to eat and the concierge pointed me to Gio and now I realized I did all that walking for nothing. Great atmosphere and service and the food is to die for. Right from the get go with the amuse bouche. I only ordered two appetizers as it was late but now I wish I has ordered more. Will be returning here on my next trip and I look forward to more tremendous food from Gio.
