Wonderful food and service. I asked for a place I could take my 91-year-old mother for dinner on Saturday. They were busy and we had no reservation, but everybody went out of their way for us. My mom wasn’t comfortable at the table for two, so one of the staff convinced the (very nice) manager to let us have the comfortable 4-seater booth. They even stored our purchases under the bar. Our server talked my mom through the menu and she ended up ordering the roasted squash gnocchi. I had the feature pizza. My mom loved her food, which is not a given with her. My pizza was the best I’ve ever had. I can’t say enough about this place. I might have overlooked it if it weren’t for the recommendation, but now there’s somewhere I know I can go with my mom or with my friends anytime. Festive and upbeat, but not too loud–again, something I have to watch for with my hearing-impaired mother. You made our evening memorable!

I’d love to like it. Always a fan of this group’s restaurants, but this one left me a bit ho-hum. Plating was uninspired, flavours were just ok. Wine list is lacking. Appetizer portions were huge and came out a little too fast – making me feel like they came out of a box. Tuna was overdone. Restaurant was loud and not terribly inviting. If they are trying to attract the younger university crowd, they will do,that, but this place disappoints the more mature palate.Sorry.

A Welcome Addition. Stopped in for lunch to check out the new addition to the Bertossi Group’s restaurants. I’d heard mixed reviews but wanted to see for myself. The look is interesting; darker and rougher than I would have expected and oddly offset by bright flashy retro-euro posters. It’s an interesting mix of old and new, but I like it. Don’t be intimidated by all the Italian on the menu, our server was super helpful and knowledgeable. There really isn’t any difference in the quality of food from the old Il Mercato, which was a concern of many previous patrons I’d spoken with. We ordered a couple of pastas (the squash and sage agnolotti and the spag with house smoked bacon and tomato), the goat cheese tart app, and the lunch special; a calzone and dessert combo. Everything was tasty, and while perhaps a bit under-seasoned, the ingredient flavours were clean and clear. Our dessert, the gingerbread cake with dulce de leche and vanilla gelato, was simply amazing and easily one of the best desserts I’ve had in years. Overall it was a good experience and I look forward to returning.
