Great Find!. My wife and I were in Halifax at the tail end of a vacation to Nova Scotia / PEI and decided to eat at MODA for our last night in town. The food was delicous, the service impeccable and the atmosphere perfect for a great intimate meal. Our server was sure to mention that the chef was known for his sauces and we see why – the scallops small plate was perfectly seasoned and flavored. The restaurant is fairly small which works well to the setting and menu of the restaurant. Would definitely return.

Worst Burger on the planet. Okay, I don’t know if they understand how make a bison burger but it completely fell apart when I lifted it up. Maybe toss and egg in that bad boy to keep it together. My first bite tasted like a sloppy joe from the highschool lunch lady. The fish cakes were tiny as in the size of toonies which is fine if they were surprisingly good.This was just disappointing after being recommended it because the people have said they like the bison burger. If you want a good burger i would recommend the rock bottom, or heading over to darrell’s (a different scene but still better). Fish cakes go down to another restaurant down by the waterfront will be cheaper and better.
Great atmosphere! The food was delicious! I had salmon with thai curry sauce— excellent! Definitely will come back! Perfect for special occasions.
Another excellent dining experience at Moda. Our first dining experience at Moda was in September 2010. We were a party of 4 and had risotto balls, lobster fontina pasta, fish cakes and muscles for appetizers. Absolutely amazing. This was followed by the beef tenderloin (a food critic wrote that you could drink the sauce and I have to agree) by three of us and halibut. Absolutely amazing. For dessert we shared the cappucino semi freddo and doughnut and the strawberry rhubarb struddel. Absolutley Amazing. We knew we would be back. We returned for another visit to Halifax in May 2011 and decided to go to Moda again with the hopes that the food would be as good as the first time. We were not disappointed. Dinner for four consisted of yorkshire pudding with beef tips in a demi glaze sauce and some of our favourites from our first visit (risotto balls and fish cakes). Absolutely amazing. More beef tenderloin and halibut and one of our friends had the pad tai. Absolutley amazing. Our friends said it was the best beef they had ever had. The dining room has a warm, cozy atmosphere, the service was attentive without being intrusive and the art work interesting. We commented on the art work and were told that the chef did it all. Very talented in the kitchen and with art. We plan to return to Halifax in September 2011 and will return to Moda again.
Great ambiance and view from inside. The service was decent enough and the seered tuna salad was good. What will me from going back was the little mouse that ran past our table at the end of the meal… gross!
