New menu, new wait staff?. Returning guests, very quiet on a weekday evening. The menu was new and OK. Wanted to share some appetizers and were told by the waiter the apps. not suitable for this. The service kind of went downhill from there. The waiter really has to go – its certainly not his kind of place, maybe he was in training? Otherwise the food was very good, particularily the entrees. The appetizers, just okay. Attentive management who seemed interested in our take on the new menu.

Very good – and friendly, too. A moderate to high-end locale with a not-so high-end attitude. The staff was courteous and helpful. The food was delicious. I started my meal with a fine scotch, followed by a melt-in-your-mouth foie gras on a berry reduction appetizer. Then I had the house specialty rack of lamb which rested in a wild mushroom reduction and was surrounded by house-made mint jelly and roasted mustard seeds. In between the courses, I was feted with a very nice and unusual beet sorbet to cleanse the palate. Yum!Onyx should definitely be a stop for you as you visit Halifax. I’m glad I did!

Perfect in every way!. We were impressed! From the service to the food, everything was like we expected and even more! A pleasure for the palate and a very relaxing atmosphere. We’ll definitely come back!

High end without being too stuffy. Lovely touches like complimentary aperitifs, palate cleansers and a delicious tempenade with assorted breads. The meals were fantastic. We had the black cod and the chicken and were both raving about the dishes. The service was a good combination of friendly and formal.
